to go to le mans for the first time this year! My mate and I want to travel on friday to arive late friday night. we want to camp inside the circuit and enjoy some hospitality.

any advice as to providors would be much appreciated

Try Travel Destinations or Speed Chills (or join in with P.Heads or PetrolheadNirvana) ... but arriving on a friday night, especially as a first time goer is going to be tricky! (Everywhere will be packed and as busy as hell with little space left).

Far better arriving Thursday if you can.

My first year we arrived about 1pm on Friday and parked up at Arnage corner to soak up the afternoon. If you want to arrive Friday, make it an early arrival. At least you'll be able to get to the campsites without being soaked or being harrassed by drunks.

Even if you stay at BSJ you'll be pitching up in the darkest depths of the site. I'd suggest leave Thursday, stay in Calais, arrive noon, pitch, drink, enjoy.....

If you want to guarantee a decent place Friday morning and a bit of comfort and hospitality, then you would be advised to give the likes of www.teamlangoustine.com
a call. Track side inside the General entry enclosure. 8ft wall surrounding the site and manned access by the ACO. So as secure as LeMans gets.

The site has secure fencing, its own toilets and showers, a large marquee with race coverage and a cash bar. There are a limited number of spaces remaining, so please give us a call as soon as you can.

Thanks for the advice, I pretty much decided to go Portsmouth St Malo on the Thursday night ferry, stay with Team Langoustine and return Cherbourg Poole on Monday.

Only slight downside is tenting.. I havvnt done it for over 30 years!!

Is it feasable or not to get required tents, sleeping bags etc in a 911 plus digital SLRs, motorsport lenses, and underpants?

Last year I got 2 tents, a gazebo, table and 2 chairs in my Smart Roadster, along with me and my mate, all our sleeping stuff and my SLR setup - I doubt you'll have any issues at all in a 911!

Iron underpants flat, pull down sun visors in car, place flat underpants on sun visors and push back up to roof

Now you have a bit moe room for wine and cheese

If you possibly can, get there earlier in the week - you only get one first time at LM after all!

By Friday night you'll probably be looking for a tent sized space, don't drive around looking for a nice pitch - there won't be one, you'll just get stressed.

Just pitch where you can, have a few beers and remember that you're at LM and you're there to enjoy yourself.

DO try to follow the racing - you'll need a radio to have any idea what is going on.

Sorted.. staying at TL Tetre site and seats in stand 18 ACO in case it rains.

Been to Millets today looking at tents etc, some were in large disc shaped bags and they litterally erect themselves I beleive, any good?

I had one last year. It will save you time putting up, but they are single skinned, small and cold.
I kept my neighbours awake last year with my chattering teeth!

Yes.....go to Decathlon and get a double skinned Pop up the 2 seconds range......www.decathlon.co.uk.... they are 200% better than the Millets ones...they sell cheap tat at outrageous prices...

1) I believe there will also be a Decathlon off the Mulsanne this year but stocks may be low by Friday!

2) Yes, 200% better than Millets, but only in the way pulling nose hair is 200% better than slamming your finger in a car door - it's a low starting point, so 200% doesn't get you that much closer to the top! Cheap, functional and disposable...perfect for Le Mans then!

There is also a Decathlon, on the N138 just north of the le mans ring road
