I have a X308 which cannot be locked/unlocked using either of the remote key fobs I have.

It's not that the batteries in the fobs need replacing as they're clearing able to transmit something to the car as there is a loud beep whenever I press the lock/unlock/boot release buttons. The key can be unlocked normally using the ignition key.

Has anyone else had experience of this issue and any ideas on how to fix?

Thanks.

You may have lost the security code.

X 308 Reprogramming:
Have all your transmitters to hand.
Hold headlight flasher back.
Turn ignition key to position 1.
Flash headlights 4 times - alarm will enter programming mode - confirmeed by beeps from alarm and flashing security LED on J gate.
Programme each transmitter by pressing the lock or unlock button on each transmitter once.
Tha alarm will sound when you press the transmitter button.

The alarm must sound 5 times to complete the routine, therfore if you're only programming one transmitter you must press the button 5 times, with two transmitters, press the button 3 times on one and twice on the other, with three...I don't need to carry on do I?

Batteries are obviously good in the transmitters so give this a go.

sounds like the remotes are fine. sounds like the alarm wont arm as it ' thinks ' that something is open or there is a key in the ignition. make sure all doors are closed, could be sticky door micro switch, an unplugged or broken bonnet sensor,( located ofs, just above the headlamps IIRC ), sticky ' key in ignition switch ' ( try a very small spray of wd40 and work the key in and out a good few times).boot open ? sit in the car and turn ignition on, are there are warnings on the dash ? ie drivers door open. if not, then it could be the microswitch in the ignition barrell. keep us posted, and happy to help further.

Thanks for the responses guys. I haven't had any luck with either of those sadly. (I tried Steve's method on two occasions, finishing the proceedure by both turning off the ignition and starting the car, is this correct?) Any other ideas? Or am I looking at an expensive trip to the dealers?

Weirdly, the problem seemed to fix itself for one day, but now it's back to normal. Any ideas?

Thread ressurection but it's close to my problem.

Occasionally my fob won't lock the doors and as my siren/beeper seems to have bitten the dust a while back I don't get that beep that tells you something is open.

I opened and closed all doors and boot but the fob still wouldn't lock it, so I used the key to lock this morning when I got to work.

Any ideas as to what part is playing up? Could this be related to other niggles I had in the snowy weather - namely one incidence of "low coolant" which wasn't when checked and one incidence of "trac not available" when starting.

The central locking issue did happen once in summer but since then has been ok.

Thanks,

Joe

I have a similar issue with my 99 XJ8 3.2 which came without fobs (now got 2 which are supposedly fine) and have tried to follow these programming instructions - after the fourth flash of the headlamps there is no beep from anywhere - but the led on the J gate flashes ONCE only. Is that correct or should it continue flashing? When I open the doors with the black key I now get the 'bong bong...'after lubing the little flap in the ignition key barrel and if I don't get the key in quickly the alarm sounds, which I believe is correct. I hadn't thought about the possibility of it 'thinking' there is something open, so that is one avenue to check - especially the bonnet switch. When I lock up with the key the indicators flash once but no chirp. I know it's only a small problem and the car is otherwise fine - but I'd quite like to get everything working OK.
