Far Cry 2 - Hidden Gem?

Just picked up Far Cry 2 for £15 as I was after a FPS that didn't consist of gunning down droves of Germans/Aliens and in the style of Deus Ex had a bit of exploration and character development.
To be honest I'm now completely engrossed in it, absolutely brilliant some of the travelling gets tiresome until you work out how to move around quicker. The weapons system is believable and and you never have enough money or ammo to make things easy.
The multiplayer is also a good laugh, imagine CoD4 but with untrained militia running round with AK's spraying bullets everywere, starting fires, ramming bases with pick-ups and blowing everything up. No wonder war in Africa is so brutal.
Anyway well worth a punt if you have a few weeks to lose.

Totally in agreement, I can only stand it for about an hour tops at the moment before I get totally bored with doing exactly the same thing every time. It needs more variety, the checkpoints need to stay empty for longer after you've taken them out (drive round a corner and go back and you'll see that they're occupied again) and it needs some sort of fast travel system in place as it can take half an hour to do just one mission.
I quite like it in doses of a couple of hours. Interesting environment, fun to wander about in.
The driving is a bit crap, but the multiplayer is a laugh.
Would agree with the "all missions are very similar" and "needs fast travel" comments though.
Basically, it feels a bit like "blood diamond, the game".

With regards the fast travel system, it has one. Just go to one of the bus stations. It wont take you exactly were you want to go but close enough, thats like real bus travel.
I have just got into the Southern territory and the pace has stepped up considerably, the missions are harder and more varied, the landscape is more complicated and it's more like being in a warzone.
Also I am playing it on Hardcore with no auto aim or cross hairs which is making it challenging to say the least.
I hope one day we get another game to rival the original Deus Ex, that was pure classic FPS Adventure gaming - perfection.
I like Farcry 2, but as said earlier, it is the monotonous travelling around which gets too much after a while.
Not played it for a while, but i will go back to it at some point.
On a similiar note, i purchased Haze for £11. I know it did not get the best of reviews, but for just over a tenner i had a lot of fun completing this shooter, plus the online stuff is half decent and IMHO better than the farcry online gameing.

Nope, mainly because it has now got fecking hard, just getting a mission done like assaulting a village is now seriously diificult. Those bloody AI guys always trying to outflank me, while there mate is piling RPG's my way.Might try Haze next then as of the recomendation above.
