Have noticed this week that there have been quite a few companies reporting "surprise profits" in thier FYE reports coming out this week.

Aggreko and Standard Chartered for two that have been on Bloombergs this morning at least.

Is this a good sign, the nett effect of the cost cutting or just proof that the media has been spinning this recession beyond what it truely is?

Three of the big China companies reports due out soon too ...

Chinese companies will be interesting, as a lot of the electronic companies are working for little or no margin.

You won't hear about it on the mainstream media as promising news doesn't fill sofas or sell papers. Obviously people in the media don't have pensions, savings or jobs to protect.

Quite possibly, this was on Bloombergs Asia News. Definitely not a mainstream for the average prole in Europe, but a popular news channel out here.

(edit to add - even for proles like me.)
