New seats - what do you think ?

Just fitted some new seats to my Griff.
After being quoted £600 to have my original seats recovered and repaired I decided it would be cheaper to buy some different seats which were a better shape to start with and didnt need to be upholstered.
The seats I decided on are out of an MX5 and are about 1cm wider on the seat.
Fairly straightforward to fit and much more comfortable than the originals
Paid £250 for the pair

Did you have to redrill the floor or make a bracket?

They look very similar to Tuscan seats so I would have tried to get some of those in blue, instead of black, however if you like them then that's all that matters.

The seats look really good but lets get back to the dash.... What have you done with the air vents?

The only thing I did to fit them was to bolt an aluminium angle bracket to the floor for the two front mounting bolts as the seat runners were longer than the TVR ones.
They are slightly higher than standard - only a few mm - but I fit in perfectly at 5'10" - I would have thought that 6'6" would be pushing it - the problem would be that because the backs are higher they would foul on the roof struts if the seat was too far back - legroom would be much the same
Initially they caught on the seat belt anchorage - just turned the anchorage round so that the bend in the metal bit was facing outwards.
Definitely hold you in better - but the original were shocking - they are by no means Recaros though.
I started from scratch with the dash panel, moved the clocks around, fitted new switches and warning LEDs.
Ditched the two plastic vents and fitted a Tuscan eyeball vent - paid about £12 from Bellhill
Final job when i've got some money is to recarpet in black

They look really good. Personally i dont think modern TVR seats work due to a styling clash. They dont appear to offer much more side support though. But i have never sat in an mx5! My lotus seats have really proved themselves in the support department. But not to everyones taste

Having moved from an MX5 to a Griff SE, I'd say no, the cerb seats of the SE are better for holding your arse & torso in place than the MX5 - I didn't get the lateral support and the leather was rather shiney & slidey. Can't speak for standard Griff seats, but if I was going to do an upgrade, I'd consider the Cerbera seats (although they do leave you sitting a bit higher - a good thing for me!)

I'd agree with Alan
The MX5 seats appear to have quite good side bolsters but they dont really grip me - Cerbera seats may well be better.
That said, they are much more comfortable than standard.
Its nice having a higher head rest too
I'd agree the styling is better as the MX5 seats are very rounded - particularly the head rest which you can see from behind - which seems to suit the cars shape better.

I'm in the same position the seats look fantastic i also have been quoted £650 to fully re cover, and the dash looks alot better, well done.



Now off to ebay for some black mx5 seats

picked up a pair 2 weeks ago, perfect condition £275!!

they are out there if you are quick enough.
