Wondered if you guys can help? Anyone know if it's possible / how to remove the dead locks from the drivers door so I can use the drivers door lock? Is it just a case of removing the motors / mechanisims (sp) from the drivers side and replacing them with a unit from a passenger / non deadlock system door?

Cheers,

Matt.

i doubt you could swap sides, but there is a place...

www.ebay.de

keywords to search for are BMW E30 "Türschlösser" / "schlöss" for "Beifahrerseite" or the word "Beifahrer"

trans. - doorlock, lock, passenger side, and passenger

Most of what i just seen are the lock barrels, which aren't much use as you'll be after the mechanisms, but i've never seen the inside of an e30 door so i don't know what i am looking for!

I had an E30 cab and don't understand what you are trying to achieve. If you turn the key to 10 o'clock it activates the central locking but you can still open from the handles inside and lock remains vertical. If you turn the key to 9 o'clock it's horizontal and you can pull the key out. It's dead locked and you can't open from the handles.confused

there are 2 locks on my drivers door and an alarm light under the rear plate. this was an upgrade option. the second lock is something to do with stopping the drivers door lock from working. if i put the key in it doesn't turn. just wondered if i need to replace the whole lock on the drivers side for one from an e30 that doesn't have this type of alarm so i can use the key. when i got the car the alarm had been disabled and i've got no fob. :-(

I had this too. The alarm lock has a special key, a kind of magnetic stick. They were crap. I had the key but it never worked. If it's not armed it wont affect the drivers door lock at all. They are not connected. You should be able to do what I described above or the lock is faulty.

Oddly I replaced some door panel clips once and one of them pushed through the frame and impeded the door locking mechanism. Preventing dead locking. Just a thought.

Have you had the door panel off. Behind the lock there are pull wires, the hooks can stretch slightly and stop full movement
