Best way to run new tyres in?
Discussion
Afternoon all.
Just got some new boots fitted to my 7. I decided on the Marangoni Zeta Linea's in the end, and whilst I have only driven a gentle 10 or so miles home, compared to the previous budget ditchfinder 2000's, the difference is night and day. I already have about the same level of grip, the ride is better/more giving, and they look good too! Now, I know that new tyres benefit from being run in in the correct way, but what is the best way on such a light car? Is it just a case of gradually building up pace and getting them nice and warm, or is there a better way?

What Dean says.Unless you're running track/race tyres that need a specific 'curing' procedure, just take it easy for the first 100 miles or so to wear off any release compound and scrub in the surface a bit.
Bear in mind that new road tyres, with deep tread blocks, actually give less grip on dry, smooth surfaces than well worn tyres do (hence racers shave wets down before use, if they can afford to discard most of the tyre's life), so don't necessarily expect an improvement in grip from your new boots!
Lee, if you closer, I might be tempted to let you!
Sam, given that the previous tyres were Wanli's and were at least 3.5 years old, an improvement in grip is almost certain! I drove it in nearly the same way to the tyre place as I did on the way back, only the car felt much more planted and smoother over the rough bits.
