Alfa 156 2.4 20v jtd

Hi all, ive been to see what i thought was a 20v but its on a 02 plate! am i correct in thinking the 20v didnt come out till 2003? the owner swears it is! also are all the 20v 6 speeds? as this is a 5 speed. it dont say 20v on the engine cover too? should i walk away?

The engine covers are very different, the old 10v has a very flat, plain cover:



whereas the 20v is a much more interesting looking thing:

Definitely, the car is a 10v not a 20v.

The 20v didn't come out until late 2003 early 2004 IIRC, this coincided with the Guigaro facelift.

As above - the 20 valve only came out with the 2003 big nose facelift and six speed box.
The engine cover pics are slightly misleading as the 150bhp 10 valve also had the "interesting" cover. This was mine (2002 facelift 10 valve).

As said, I'm pretty sure it came with the facelift only. I've only ever seen them with the 6-speed 'box (it needed a GM gearbox as the Alfa ones couldn't handle the torque! Means you can't fit a Q2 diff sadly), and I think mine is listed at 20v on the V5 as well.

Edit: should have a 20V badge on the back under the JTD one too. But some people do take them off.

Interesting, I've not seen one of these! I notice the oil fillers are in different locations though.
