High Bentham to Slaidburn (Lancs)
Discussion
Have seen this road on a map a few times and thought id give it a whirl.
Starting at the train station at High Bentham, and going over the tops to Slaidburn - approx 11.2 miles/20-25 mins.
So good in fact, that TomTom throws you the long way out as it believes it is quicker.
It's a good road - twisty, lots of dips and peaks, lots of single track bits, cattle grids and sheep galore.
Saw 6 cars and 2 bikes coming towards me and absolutely nothing travelling in the direction i was - for 11 miles!
Pics below:

Oh yeah, the pics just reminded me - if the bendy bits weren't bad enough - it started snowing too!!

I'll have to try that road soon, thanks for the pictures Sider.
I was over in that direction myself today, did a run from Ingleton to Hawes then west to Sedbergh before heading back home on a soggy M6. Some great scenery up there before the clouds came down.

Not mine James.
I live near St Helens.
I'd been at a meeting in Ulverston, so headed to High Bentham from J36 of the M6, did the road, and then carried on via Slaidburn to Clitheroe (which is also a nice road - a bit wider too!!) and then down the A59 to the Tickled Trout and on the M6 to home.
Beware by the way - just as you see a sign for Stocks reservoir when travelling from HB to Slaidburn, there is a huge pothole that'll rattle your bones a bit!

When my kids were young We lived in LONG PRESTON.
When my wife had had enough of the baby crying and the toddler doing what toddlers do, I'd pack the kids in the Metro 1275 sport and do a round trip blast Down to slaidburn, across to bentham, across to the ribblehead viaduct on the settle to carlise railway and then back to settle and back to Long Preston.
I had fun whilst the kids slept. Done it at 2am once, during the day in fog and on Summer Sundays. I reckon maybe 20 times.

Did you ever see that "Grand designs" episode a few years ago where that couple renovated a derelict tower about a mile away, between Long Preston and Gargrave?....
Personally I found living in the sticks very hard.
