Picking up some people tomorrow at Heathrow, I can think of better things to do personally, only problem is, no one has told me what terminal they are coming in from, is there anyway I can find out, its a long haul flight from America, is that going to be terminal 4?

I hope it is, I really cant be arsed to have to drive around finding out which termnial they are coming in

Is it BA?

If so it is T5.

If you know the flight number, or airline and approx arrival time, you can look it up on the BAA site or teletext.

T1 is easy.

Just go through the tunnel , stay left and follow the short stay signs as soon as you come out of the tunnel

It'll be very well sign posted.

Edit: Sorry, I assumed you meant once you'd parked your car. The descriptions below (through the tunnel, turn left) are a bit more detailed than mine!! wink

basically, come off the M4 - follow the signs to terminals 1,2 & 3 - go through the tunnel then head left.

the pickup area and short stay is up the ramp you will see on your left as you go around the loop - head up there (and IIRC) the short stay is accessed by turning left at the top, pickup zone is follow around to the right.

Around the M25, head on the M4 towards London and it is signposted. Come off at the next junction and turn right... down the heathrow spur and straight over where the plane is (Used to be concorde, now another airline) and carry on through the tunnel. Terminal 1 is the first one you come to on the left... Up the ramp and you'll be there... at departures... this is where I usually pick people up from... otherwise, follow the signs to the car park

BTW - There are still 3 BA flights which do not go to T5. Barcelona is 1, I think Bangkok is another... always worth checking

BA have now moved out of T1 entirely - some of their flights (Barcelona and Nice spring to mind) have moved to T3.

T1 is becoming the Star Alliance terminal - so at the moment is the hub for bmi, joined by LOT, US Airways, United, NZ, South African, Asiana. Lufthansa, Swiss, Thai are due to join them. Not sure if Singapore will join in T1 as the only terminal capable of handling A380s is T3.

T1 is still the terminal for Irish flights too, which are all handled by Aer Lingus (moving to T4 soon) and bmi.

There are some other anomolies like Transaero and Cyprus Airways at T1.

T2 is still the European shorthaul terminal, but is soon to be demolished. T1 and T2 will be rebuilt as 'Eastern Terminal' - still the Star Alliance hub.

T4 will become the Sky Team terminal (KLM/Air France and others)

Who on earth told you that?

Terminal 1 does do domestic flights, they also do a whole lot of flights to the rest of the world.

If you time it right then you can do the pick up area. If you are not sure then don't linger in the pick-up zone as the nice men with guns will ask you to move on. However, there is a short stay car park just beyond this (multi-storey car park) and you can park in there. Don't fight with the taxi and private hire cars on the lower levels, just go up a few levels and park up there - be warned though, take some change as it can be expensive for even 20 minutes or so. I think that after 20 minutes it suddenly increases in cost, to several quid....

But other than that, its pretty easy. US Air into Terminal 1? Seems odd. AA is T3 so I would have thought that US airlines would use the same terminal.... still, the online service on the website will be accurate though.

As per above, US Airways are part of Star Alliance, so have moved to T1.

Heathrow is changing, a lot...

A good trick to reduce the cost is to drive in on the A4 & stop at the McDonalds along there, around 10 minutes from the airport. It'll be full of booted & grey suited people with big black Mercs & Audis, waiting for their bosses. Have a brew & when the people landing get off the plane get them to ring you. Then finish brew saunter in & they should be coming out or pretty close to it. Reduces the cost of parking should they get delayed & also means you shouldn't be late if the traffic grinds ot a halt.

+1

Park up behind the garage on the A4 and wait for them to ring you, that's if they have your number, then ask them to go to the outside of the terminal where you dropped them off - drive in and pick them up with the minimum of fuss. Job's a goodun.

Got it all sorted, are there cameras in those tunnels for speed detection? purely because I did have to have a quick few blaps, not to silly speeds of course, sounded good though

Parking 30 mins £2.40, 1 hour £4.20
Good job I arrived on time and picked them up near enough straight away, still took 2.40 of us though

Two things though
Is it wrong that I
A. Found orthodox Jews there
B. Had to take a picture, I had never seen proper Jews before
C. *tutted* to myself after seeing them saving there pennies by using the the free phones hidden on the walls, to call instead of there mobile phones in there hand
D. Laughed when I found out that the Orthodox Jews mainly occupied "Golders Green" as it seemed ironic and very apt frown

Secondly, Does the M4 have any reedeeming features, I have been up and down it twice this week, and I cant honestly think of anything good about the road, full of average speed cams, with the "M4 Mile markers" IE Newport,Swindon, Reading, Slough, Heathrow, London

I mean you start of at Newport, get over the bridge instantly depressed that your miles away from Swindon, you get to Swindon slightly elated, only to realise Reading is miles away, then you go to Reading knowin full well Slough is around the corner, couple that with all the cameras, and wombles

I hate the M4

Talking to someone who disembarked from a Singapore A380 this morning...

Took 1.5 hours from touchdown to arrivals hall. Is this usual because of the number of bags to remove, or was something amiss this morning?
