RX-8 Tax

I am looking into the possiblity of buying a 2004ish RX-8 231 and just wondered what kind of figure I would be paying in road tax per year? Cheers

RX8 231s produce 284 g/km of CO2. This will put them into the highest band (m) of the new system, which is £405/yr from 1st April.
If your car was registered before 23 March 2006 then the increase in tax has been delayed for at least 2 years, and your car will be in bank k, which is £215/yr. When the government decide to end the delay, it will go up to band m.

You could get a 7 registered as a 1.3 and pay £110 a year.

Yeah you used to be able to do this, however the DVLA have got wise to it & closed the loophole.

Especialy as engine size has no meaning thesedays, register it as a 1.3 or 8.0, CO2 is where the price bands are.

pre-06 are definately not going up to the £300+ mark, I believe it'll be £210-£220.

I think (mines a 55 reg)and it costs me i think £220. I made sure I got a 55 so it was new as possible but not so new to pay the obscene, ridiculous and unjustified tax rate!

Only for newer cars, they have no measurements for older cars and couldn't possibly do it anyways.

The difference in tax between a pre-06 & post-06 is not really a reason to put you off buying a newer car. £180... lets face it, over the year.. that's less than 4 fill-ups.
Sure though, if you're budget has you firmly in the pre-06 bracket for what you can buy, then it's a bonus but if you're budget is teetering between pre/post tax hike... personally I'd buy the newest/best condition car you can for your money.
