My experience of the emerging Race Pro multiplayer idiots
Discussion
I know there is another thread currently running about Race Pro, but thought I’d set this up as it’s specific to the online part of the game. Sorry if its long winded, or rubbish!
I have noticed that it is slowly going the way of Forza 2 etc and we are getting more and more online idiots! The public games seem to have been ok over the last few weeks but last night seemed to witness the birth of the 12yr old d
head driver.
Had a good few games, managed to win my first race online in WTCC (a 10 lapper around Anderstorp) and was generally enjoying the racing. The menu system and game disconnections were annoying as usual, but that’s for the other thread to discuss. I thought I’d give an insight into the general numptiness I met last night whilst playing.
So, there I was, lined up for my first race at Pau. My start was good; I had the usual amount of wheelspin but I changed up to 2nd gear at the right time for once! As we raced into the first set of corners I was last of 3 (no surprise there). A few corners later and carnage ensues as the two cars in front of me tangle. One of them is wedged across the track and I can’t avoid him. Crunch! I hit him and the little spanner sign appears in my car. The collision shifts him out of the way, I press on, and he disappears into the distance behind me.
3 laps (and many wall scuffs) later I’m still in the lead and there are only a few corners left. Matey in a Chevrolet behind is gaining on me, he has been for about half of the last lap. He can smell blood (probably from my numerous crashes) and is getting closer as I approach the penultimate chicane. I brake and begin shifting down to 1st gear. Crunch! He spears into the back of me and pushes me into the pit lane!
Cue some serious reverse action and I’m back on the track, but he is quite a way in-front now. I catch him on the next set of corners but its too late, he wins the race.
After looking at the replay I notice that he hit me at nigh-on full pelt. He didn’t hardly brake at all. I suppose I’ll have to watch for this when I’m next on Pau. I realize that I have witnessed the birth of the Race Pro knob driver!
A few races later and I’m lining up second on the grid at Monza. I’m in a Seat Leon and the chap on pole is in the same sort of car. Behind us are a gaggle of other cars, 4 in total.
The lights flick to green and the start, once again, is surprisingly good. I head to the first chicane side by side with the other Seat. We brake hard and I somehow just get the edge on him. I am on the inside now for the first part of the chicane. He tries to cut in but the corner angle is in my favour. He bounces off the side of my car and has to slot in behind me.
We clear the chicance and within seconds are at full pelt towards the first of the faster chicanes. I begin braking as normal for this but all of a sudden there is a crashing sound from my boot and I’ve unwittingly sped up. I keep my foot (well finger on the trigger really (pad)) on the brake but to no avail. I’m pushed onto the grass and attempt to rejoin the circuit.
I bounce over the chicane bumps and am back on track as the field (minus the other Seat) accelerate away. I then get the dreaded message stating that I have been warned for cutting the track. WTF! I was pushed off! The game ignores me and as I accelerate in pursuit of the rest of the field, I feel like I’m being punished for something that isn’t my fault.
I progress through the next few laps and by the time I approach the start/finish line for the fourth time I’ve seen some prey. A Chevrolet that looks like it’s gone 10 rounds with a car crusher is in my path. He must have had a bad exit from the previous corner as his straight line speed is snail-like. I want to get him and pass him. Never has a battle for fourth been so enticing.
As I’m approaching him (and the first chicane braking point) a thought pops into my mind. Where is old matey in the other Seat? My worst nightmare comes true as I press the rear view button and notice he is there in the distance, lurking like a vulture lining up a dying animal.
I begin braking for the first chicane and I’m nearly on top of the Chevrolet. Then, all of a sudden, my boot explodes again. I’m pitched into a 360 degree spin and I slide across the grass. ‘Blimey, that was lucky’ I say to myself as I’m returned to face the right way down the track. I bounce across the grass and rejoin the race. Matey boy who has smashed into me is ahead. How?
Then it his me, the dreaded audio and message combination explaining that I’ve been wanred for cutting the circuit again! Again! I never bloody did, I was pushed! The race director is not convinced though and he calls me in for a drive through penalty.
I decide that, due to the time deficit that will be added after the race (as it’s the last lap), I’ll press on and humiliate old matey in the Seat by overtaking him. Cue some furious driving and some luck and I’m alongside him by the time we reach the final chicane of the lap.
We’re neck and neck approaching the first part of the corner and I’m on the inside. It looks good, I’ll have him here! I’ll overtake and nip off into the distance with a proverbial ‘birdy’ flipped into the rear view mirror.
But, no. Matey boy is up to his old tricks again. He pushes his car into mine so that we are rubbing doors. He keeps doing this (he must have had his steering wheel jammed to the left) until I get slightly ahead of him. Then as my rear wheels pass his front wheels the inevitable spin happens. I’m launched onto the grass and end up cutting the chicane, again!
All of a sudden the screen disappears and I’m presented with a menu screen. It states that I’ve been disqualified from the race.
How nice!

This is why I don't play racing game online anymore, knobheads smashing you off. Just play FPS (COD 4/5) instead were you are meant to kill people.
But then you have knobheads who cheat and manage to levitate in the game!! You can't win!!Gassing Station | Video Games | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff

Cheers for that post, cracked up while reading that - It helps to share the pain of on-line gaming. Have not had the pleasure of playing Race Pro online however...
