Ex wives and maintenance
Discussion
Shouldn't really post when wound up, but ....
Just had a chat to the ex wife about my maintenance payments (I'm paying half the mortgage plus 15% of my take home). Upon my wanting to reduce the payments due to moving in with my partner, she dropped a bombshell - she's been informed that she can claim against our combined incomes!!!!
Sounds highly unlikely, but thats apparently the legal advice she's been given.
FFS. Ex wives. May they rot in hell ....

She cannot actually claim against your combined incomes.
However, if you cohabit she may be able to make the case your living costs are lower and therefore you can afford more for her 'needs'.
If only that were the truth. I'm currently paying rent on a room (£370 pm), and as my other half will lose virtually all of the benefits she's been on (low income, single mother, etc.), I'm having to pick up the slack on that - so my outgoings will jump up a fair bit. However, if you cohabit she may be able to make the case your living costs are lower and therefore you can afford more for her 'needs'.
And as for bending over, thats what the blasted divorce felt like ....

Add up the mortgage and other payments and if you are paying over the odds then you can negotiate with your ex.

I got one of those, i will never understand how I effectively pay more for my kids after we split than before, this has always baffled me.Just had a chat to the ex wife about my maintenance payments (I'm paying half the mortgage plus 15% of my take home). Ta for that - gone through it and my payments should (according to that site) drop from the currently paid 15% to 12%. Not a lot, but every little counts.Add up the mortgage and other payments and if you are paying over the odds then you can negotiate with your ex.
Will have to send those details her way.
War has commenced ....

When I was getting divorced my ex said she'd had legal advice saying that she could claim maintenance from me. This despite us having no children and her being in reasonably paid employment. My solicitor laughed when I told her.Just had a chat to the ex wife about my maintenance payments (I'm paying half the mortgage plus 15% of my take home).
