Whilst I'm waiting for my focusstoc.com owner membership to acitivate, I though I'd ask about remaps on here. I am almost certainly going to purchase a remap in one form or another over the coming months, but trying to find unbiased opinion on the web is not easy.

I would be particularly interested to here from anyone who has done a lot of miles with a remap, are there any downsides? Bluefin seems to be the cheapest, but is there a reason to pay a bit more for say Dreamscience, or even more for Code Red?

The rest of the car is standard, I may consider a larger intercooler at some point in the future as popular opinion says the standard one can be a limiting factor. Don't want an exhaust or induction kit really.

No way I can swing £1000+ past the Mrs without incurring permanent injury. I am aware it's probably the best quality remap but the price is a non starter.

Friend has an 08 ST with a Code Red remap, it is great. Have spoken to the guy from Code Red too in Stockport and they know what they are doing.

I think I'll have to go and have a chat to these chaps, they are not very far from me.

Focusstoc is definitely the best place for advice, personally i would definitely get a better I/C on the car.
As for remaps the Dreamscience has 5 different maps on it so you can choose which one suits you best.

My owner membership is active now. I've learnt more in two hours on there than I thought possible! I reckon a Bluefin and an intercooler are sufficient for my needs.

I'll be keeping a keen eye on Ebay for a used intercooler.

The problem with just re-mapping the ST is that it is widely known that the standard ST intercooler is simply not upto the job. If you want to have a re-map worth anything you need the intercooler - the Mountune is the best option imho (if I don't get an RS I'll be getting a mountune kit).

A quick question. Is there any way of resetting a bluefin stage 1 hand unit?

Superchips have said it's basically useless second-hand. I'm sure I've seen stories of people using ones that had been reset and sold on.

Any advice anybody?

(And yes, I may have dropped a bk by trying to find a bargain!) redface

BTW for what it's worth... I was one of the 1st people to have any remap done to and ST (4th to be precise).. which was Bluefin and IIRC they were a year ahead of dreamscience who until recently use superchips technology for their maps!!

In the following 18months I did 85,000 miles with the then standard intercooler versus the current improved one... I also ran a decat and piper cat back and had absolutely no issues what so ever with the intercooler on the roads.. just sufferred on track a bit!!

Yeah, they know the crack I suppose. I emailed them today and the reply went along the lines of 'send it it to us and we'll replace it with a new handset for £297(ish) plus VAT and P&P'.

That would of course bring it to within 90% of the current £391 asking price for a new one.

Cheers for the reply.

Lesson learned I suppose. Must stay off Ebay after a couple of glasses of wine!

Hi Marcellus,

Thanks for the benefit of your experience. I'm not sure if you remember but I've chatted to you a year or two ago on focustoc.com about Le Mans. This years trip is all booked and planned. Assuming your the same Marcellus that is!

Now they've lowered the price of Bluefin to under 400 notes I'm very tempted to just get it, and then I'll pick up a used intercooler as and when one comes along, as I do track days very occasionally.

Whilst Bluefin doesn't boast the biggest power gains of the various remaps, I've not actually heard anything bad about it on forums, which is what attracts me (along with the price, cos I'm tight).

The fact that Dreamscience comes with multiple maps actually puts me off, as I'd always be paranoid I wasn't using the best one.

I have an ST running Bluefin. I cant speak for the other remaps but I love the Bluefin. Cheap enough & a big difference in performance...
