Does any one know if there is a way of testing a blue throttle pot on a cerb to see if it is faulty?

Swap the connectors over to see if you get the same reading on the diagnostics. If a throttle pot is not working, the ECU takes the readings from the other working T'Pot.

With ignition on but engine not running, have the diag. software hooked up, then gradually open the throttle from fully closed to wide open; if all is well you should be able to see the throttle reading on each bank increase steadily and smoothly; anything else and they're duff.

Thanks for the advice, but is there any way I can test them when they are off the car with a meter?

Well, I guess you could take them both off and compare the resistance across each of them with the spindle at different positions.

Duff ones are very spiking and the readings jump around compared to the other.

Handy hint. If you disconnect the faulty one the car uses the readings from the good one for both sides, which is good for a get you home mode. I wish I'd known that before driving 30 miles home with one side jumping between readings of 30 and 90.

I tried that, as I suspected my nearside one was faulty. Can ran fine, but would not start with only one connected.

Damm - Now it's my turn, after posting my reply above, I now realise that I wasnt at all helpful - My apologies Scott666 smile

I suspect I now have a faulty Throttle Pot. Hooked up to the Diags Tpot 1 Keeps fluctuating, not a lot, just like it can't quite make its mind up, whereas TPot 2 is very steady. It does increase nice and steadily when I press the accelerator, but it fluctuates slightly.

I don't know if these screen shots are helpful.

Forgive the numpty question, but I always forget which bank is 1357, which is 2468, and what Tpot controls which bank?

Passenger side is odd, driver side even. If you give the linkage a wiggle on one side you should be able to tell which side is 1 and which is 2 (sorry, cant remember that bit off the top of my head!). smile
