BATTERY PROBLEMS....
Discussion
HI all got a couple of questions that I hope you may be able to answer..
First, the easy one - what type of battery is typically installled in a Chim 500?
Second, any ideas as to the cause of my most recent TVR related woes - Whilst on holiday the wind set the alarm off on my car. Unfortunately the key proved, shall we say, 'ineffective' at rectifying the situation with the result that the alarm just ran and ran until the battery wore down. I am wondering why my key fob should go from being in perfect working order one day to quite simply not working a couple of days later..? (PS my mum even had the battery in the key fob changed for me but still withn no effect)
The net result is that i have arrived back from holiday to find a useless car sat on the drive
Thanks, Kev.

Battery - I first of all suggest that you use "Search" at top of screen, this will find you numerous threads about battery replacement. I think you need Type 072?
Things to watch out for with batteries:
1)It is not necessary to buy a battery then have to cut lugs off the ends with a stanley knife to make it fit the battery box. If Halfords or ???? cannot yours match exactly, then look in Yellow Pages for the local trade/wholesaler and contact them. Best if you can remove battery and then take it with you to compare.
I bought a match to the original TVR battery that had been made in Eastern Europe. This is exactly the same battery as many well known named brands offer just without their posh stickers. Tungstone Batteries (oem to TVR)in Market Harborough has closed, so no one makes these batteries in the UK any more, they are all imported.
2)TVR batteries are often of the vented type, rather than the more expensive sealed for life sort. If replacing like for like, make sure the battery supplier gives you the venting tube to fit your new battery. The tube vents battery vapours out through a hole in the wheel arch immediately behind and just above the battery box. A new (long) venting tube makes re-fitting easier, you just cut-off the excess sticking out in the wheel arch when everything is back in place. Remember to seal around the base of the tube again, where it passes through the body, so that water does not get into the footwell.
Alarm / central locking - I suspect that whilst the car has been parked the alarm has got damp or wet and this is the cause of your problems. Your keyfob cannot correct what is in effect an electrical short.

As PeterC said, the problem with your alarm may well be a faulty siren (is it a meta unit?). Search through PH for meta problems. Since the internal battery ran down, have you tried testing it? (window down, alarm set, open door...if lights flash but no siren, then you have a duff siren) cost of replacement approx £80 plus fitting. Get it replaced pointing away from the direction of travel to stop water ingress.
Cheers, Paul.
