Don't know about you guys but these rumored supermini hot hatches (MK5 Polo GTI, New Ibiza Cupra and Audi S1) with the 1.4 TSI look seriousley impressive to me. I know the engine sounds and performs amazingly in the Golf with the supercharger at low revs and then the turbocharger helping out as higher revs.

Rumored to be 170 in the Polo, 180 in the Ibiza and 200 in the S1 Quatro, going to be a right set of pocket rockets!

True sucessor to the original GTI perhaps?

Well the new Polo weighs 7.5% less than the outgoing model, which was no heavyweight itself. The 170 TSI is seriousley nippy in the overweight MK5 Golf, almost GTI fast, so its going to be amazing in the Polo me thinks.

Dont forget about the Fabia vRS that will have the 1.4TSI - probably 140bhp but maybe even the 170bhp.

I'm not sure about the Fabia. They had a hot version of the new one at Geneva last week, using ye olde 1.9 tdi.

Autocar had an article stating it would be the 1.4TSI and the look of the car would be far more S2000 than the Fabia Sport and that was last weeks episode.

They certainly wouldnt be using the old 1.9TDI PD any more it would be the 2.0 TDI CR if they went that route.

The longlivity of that engine worries me. It's just too complicated. How much earlier in its life (compared to an engine with only a turbo or only a supercharger) would it become beyond economic repair?

Plus, my experiences with VAG dealers is that they can't solve anything that can't be solved by resetting a parameter in a module (or swapping out modules ad infinitum).

The new one is 7.5% lighter than the old one which came in at 1,100kg so it's not too shabby

Presumably your not talking about the same 1.4TFSI engine thats in the current A3. Cos thats as flat as F**k. 125bhp i think.

No, the A3 has the single-turbo 1.4 TFSi. I am talking about is the twincharged (turbo and supercharger) 1.4 TSI.

Saying that though the A3 1.4TFSi isn't half bad. It licks its two main rivals; BMW 116i and Merc A170.

Am just buying the 122ps TSI on a golf for the wife's runaround. Astonishing pickup for a 1.4 (in a heavy car). the 160ps in a light car would be great fun.

BTW - MK6 Golf = very sensible, but bloody good, I have to say. Interior looks like a 35k Audi/Beemer, ride is quiet and settled. A well planted car (though not as good looking as the Mk5 IMO)
