Wales-Scotland Easter trip - two questions
Discussion
Planning to take the week off before Easter and embark on a long-awaited road trip to explore some of the roads I've been reading about here.
The focus of this trip will be exclusively on driving. No passengers, M-ways, fancy hotels, gourmet food or whisky distilleries. Just the best tarmac the British Isles has to offer.
My questions are - do I need to book accommodation in advance? I'd rather avoid this to keep my options open - however it is school holidays and Easter week. My route will take in South and North Wales, the Peak and Lake Districts, Yorkshire Dales and the Highlands. I'm not interesting in camping however as long as it there is heating and it's clean, I'm happy. Ideally I'd like to pitch up and find a local hostel wherever I land at sunset.
Secondly, given the focus of the trip, could any of you experienced hands validate that 3,000 miles in 10 days is realistic given the type of roads I'll be on and the holiday season?

Easter is very busy here (West Highlands). Probably mostly booked up already. If you have ANY chance of doing it outside the hols, between Easter and Whitsun you will find completely empty roads and the B&Bs will have space.
If you HAVE to come up when the crowds are here, get out really early to experience this: http://www.stevecarter.com/picaday/roads.htm

Stunning pics! Thanks all for the feedback so far. It looks like I'll have to book ahead and be fairly regimented in planning out my start and finish points each day.
Steve I have thoroughly devoured your site in preparation for this trip and will be including your recommended routes plus more (for example will be doing the Inverness to Thurso run).
Unfortunately the only window I have is the two weeks straddling Easter so will have to make the most of what's available to me.
