The windscreen washers on the 330 stopped working this morning. Pump was running ok, so I pulled the pump out of the reservoir followed by the filter, followed by the contents of the reservoir...doh!

Where does all the gunk that was blocking the filter come from, that's what I want to know! I only ever pour water/additive mix in there and the filter was blocked solid. Is there some wierd alchemy going on?

Rant over...

I used cheap petrol station screenwash and immediately had the same problem

Have you had the car from new?

To their credit BMW make the car easy to strip down so you can deal with stuff like this

Yes its an easy job on the E46, tank got gunked up, stripped it down and cleaned it out. The 1 series though, that was a different matter. Complete pain in the arse. Take a wheel off, remove the arch liner and clean out. Took about 3 hours.

No, not had the car from new, but I do use "name brand" screenwash. The 1 series washer bottle sounds like a 'mare...

Oh it is belive me! BMW recommend only using genuine parts screen wash and a few of the folks on babybmw agree. I'm giving it a try as I don't want to have to cleain either of ours again.
