So, having enjoyed Brakespear Triple, McEwan's Champion and Owd Rodger, I decided to brave the "bum beer" part of the beer aisle and the disapproving looks of other shoppers, and grabbed a 4-pack of Whitbread Gold Label - "The No1 Barley Wine". I chilled it, poured it into a cold glass, and once the head settled, tucked in. Certain, it's a bit more one dimensional than the other beers I mentioned, but it's rich and tasty nonetheless. I fancy trying a some other nips. Can anyone recommend other barley wines, and if so, where stocks them?

This is a pretty good example of a dying breed:

Certainly the flavour and colour is deeper and richer than Gold Label.
