BBC News said:
Shots fired at soldiers in Antrim
Breaking News

Soldiers in County Antrim have come under fire during a gun attack at an Army base.

Unconfirmed reports said that a number of people had been wounded, but it is not clear if they were civilians or military personnel.

Shots were fire at the Masserene Army base in Antrim, 16 miles north of Belfast, at 2140 GMT.

A spokesperson for the Police Service of Northern Ireland said it was not known if there were any casualties.

One report said that shots were fired from a passing car during the incident. [/small]
Should be interesting to see how this develops, hopefully nobody too badly hurt.

Edit: noticed one killed, rip.

Well not known yet if it was the drive by shooters who are laying there dead now, rather than the soldiers.

I bet there's a link between this, if it turns out to be whatever the IRA "soldiers" like to call themselves nowadays, and economic strife south of the border.

Things are really hard in Eire right now.

It's all we need right now, though.

And we thought the Islamists were scary......the IRA were 10x more accomplished.

Not Good news. frown

Thoughts and Wishes go out to the wounded, and their families

Sounds like a reaction to recent intel ops by Irish Forces.

Hopefully its just a couple of idiots with some left-over weaponry and not something that might rock the political boat over there.irked

Story other day on BBC that Army has started to deploy special reconnaissance regiment troops in NI to keep an eye dissidents. Maybe not a coincidence.

No IRA suicide bombers though, and more often than not they gave warnings.

  • Edit*
That sounds a bit like I am defending the IRA, just think Islamic terrorists are in a different category of evil bds.

Bugger.

Some people can't bear to leave it alone and ruin everything.

Dragging the North back into the past.

These guys are isolated and the transition to peace has been easier than most expected, in reality I expected things like this to happen more than it has.

This is a blip by those that don’t want to move on.

Let's hope so.

It all depends on how the communities in NI react. They either say "Let's move on" or sink back into their old emnity.

It certainly is a sad day for two soldiers to lose their lives frown

Hopefully as Eric says there will be no further repercussions.
