URGENT Door Opening itself - HELP please...

Hi,need help please. Door keeps opening istelf, when I go over a bump. Has been getting gradually worse. Almost all the time now. Must be electrical shorting I guess?
Greg/Power kindly gave following advice and I've tried to fix it myself:
- Renewed micro-switch
- Swapped over door cards
- Checked button/behind mirror
- Adjusted strike pin and latch
- Cleaned cables and connectors
Can anyone advise what the hell I can do to fix this..?
Last resort I'll have to take the car to a garage here in Geneva, not ideal....

Hi. Is your speedo not working? doors should not open when moving, IIRC the control that stops the doors opening when moving looks at the speedo.
Also check that the manual door opening handles are not causing the door to not latch fully when you close them, they look and sound closed but the mechanism is not locked. This is what the problem was on my Tam, nothing to do with the electric bit, the door would open like yours when you went over bumps or round corners!!. Try pulling the handles to fully open the doors and resetting by pushing back (remember the drivers door has two manual door pulls, pm me if you don't know where the second is).

tried emailing u but not sure it went through... The other manual handle is for the boot, so not that...
The speedo works.
But reading that the red manual handle in the footwell was indeed what caused yours to open like mine, I investigated further.
The manual door release mechanism inside behind the door catch:
you see the bannana shaped hole that guides the lever. The lever doesn't return all the way to the top when pushing in the manual handle. I pushed it up with a screwdriver and did a bumpy road test. Door doesn't open!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! However the lever seems to be working its way down again. Looking at the passanger side, it doesn't spring so well.
I will see how it goes and if it starts to open again I will try to get this assembly from Power, or a breakers or it seems to be a Ford piece (that explains it
) Or maybe the cable is grimey...

I had the same problem with the door opening on my Tuscan, went over a bump and door flew open, I was going around a corner at the time and with the Tuscan being a handful enough, wrestling a door at 70mph makes for an interesting drive.
I took the car straight to Westover Performance and 24 hours later the problem was solved. They fitted a new door locking mechanism which they claim came from a Ford transit, so the cost was only £36.00, it might be worth giving them a call to find out where they sourced the part from.

thanks guys. Indeed it's Ford as I discovered last year when I first had this problem.
So I had taken it to a Ford garage in Geneva to repair
(On a somewhat related note, have you seen the stock price of Ford from its low in Nov 08!!! http://uk.finance.yahoo.com/echarts?s=F#chart5:sym...
Will take it back to the Ford garage - maybe it's under warranty although the job cost about the same as yours, so won't break the bank! Just have to remember to always wear a seatbelt till its fixed, like u said, the door once opened on me, then unlatched going around a roundabout (which go anticlockwise over here leaving me, the driver, dangling out the door!!)!

I have what I suspect is a very similar problem with the driver's door. Tuscan S Convertible 2006. The door opens itself to the first latch when driving smoothly along a mororway; no bumps needed. It never comes completely open. It only does this when the window is completely shut. If the window is partly open the door never opens.
No problems with the speedo, or door latch microswitch, it's got a new door ECU also, wiring connections all cleaned.
If it's the solenoid or door latch mechanism - how do you get it out? I've unbolted the outside plate and stuff once before but cannot seem to be able to manouver the solenoid out of the hole in the door back.

Although I had it changed, again, the door opening itself problem came back.
HOWEVER, Jason at Power advised me the problem was probably the spring not pulling hard enough.
Apparently the spring had to be modified in the first pace by the factory.
He advised fitting AN additional spring and I asked my garage to do so.
PROBLEM FIXED, just like that, door stays firmly closed now!!
Took an annoying age to get to this solution - so very happy to share!!
