We seem to have a problem with a neighbor who likes to take in feral cats, which I have no problem with, each to their own and all that, and other neighbors will make relevant official complaints when he has too many for me to worry about being the “bad neighbor”.

My question is does anyone have any advise on preventing cats roaming into my garden? We have a dog puppy that is not yet fully up to speed on duties, so I want to find some way of giving her a head start. Also there are spots that dog will not go to that the cats seem to have open access to (balcony, BBQ pit, etc)

Anyone got any good cat deterrents that will not also kill off dogs?
NB – not a cat fan so violent solutions are acceptable as well as long as they do not affect the dog!

How about a BB gun? I have also read there is a plant you can get that gives off a smell that cats detest.

Happy,

Mutt is doing an admirable job, but there is only so much one 12 week old pup can do against 6 or 7 ferral cats (which TBH are now removed from the garden thanks to el dish licker) Its spots like the balcony and other spots where Pup is (currently) not allowed)

Livid,

BB Guns are illegal here. Given that i live opposite an army base, i am inclined not to break local gun laws!!

(but otherwise, yes a good solution!!!)

Hmm no BB guns, surely if the cats are Feral it would be no different from shooting Rabbits?

Anywho the plant i have found it! Alas dogglets do not like the smell either. Maybe you are just going to have to fatten up your dog hehe

Not quite! There's CPL type group out here too I'll ask Nicky if she still has any contact details. They'll round 'em up neuter and try to rehome them. We used to act as a foster home until they were rehomed - and no, before you ask I'm not doing it!

A nice humane way of deterring cats on your land is to sprinkle some 'silent roar' on your garden (available from any garden center). Perfectly safe for all animals, but cats will be scared.
BTW I like cats, hence the 'nice' method!!

I suspect that friendly old Malay chap next door is not up for getting moggies snipped etc ... and TBH i don't want to cause mass genocide on the local ferral mog population that he likes to adopt, (the long standing neighbours seem to do that when the population gets out of control) as i say, each to his own, he is my neighbour and i have no issue with mogs other than their stinky piss about the place.

I am just after a solution to protect my "boundaries"

Was thinking of putting chili oil on the boundaries for the cats ... should change their minds ....

The zoo sells something called "Zoo Poo". I do not know how much of it is contributed by the lions though...

BTW, sterilised cats will have a corner of one of their ears snipped off.

Unless it's changed out here that depends on the vet doing the deed, not all have the 'marker'

Shirley a call to Singapore Zoo is the answer John!
