Throttle jammed!

Pootling up the road (in heavy rain) just now and suddenly the throttle sticks wide open. Brown trouser moment!
Hit the killswitch, pull over and check underwear.
Restart a few minutes later - all seems fine.
Any ideas guys?
It's a 97 4.2 by the way.
If it seems fine now it may not be mechanical. However, it is always sensible to have a second throttle return spring. Also (for 4.5 owners) check nylon ties holding on purple inlet pipes. I once sucked one into the inlet and it jammed open the throttle. I was doing 130 mph at the time at an Aintree Track day and hoping to slow down for the next corner! At the throttle flap end of the pipe, I now use jubilee clips to prevent a recurrence. A final thought is to check nothing is fouling the accelerator pedal.Hit the killswitch, pull over and check underwear.

i had a similar problem with mine. went to do a donut, as I put my foot down to flick the car round, i let off the gas, so i was on and off the gas pretty quickly all of a sudden the throttle jams on and its revving on the rev limiter, the steering wheel was turned and the spoke was blocking the kill button. i paniced and thought it was going to pop. eventually came to my senses and turned steering wheel and knocked it off.
i found that the throttle linkage had returned fatster than the throttle cable. the cable had jumped out of its runner and jammed the throttle open. it needed to be to be put back in its runner manually so this may not be what had happended to you but its possible as it could have found its way back into the throttle cable guide on the throttle mech.

Ive had mine dislodge itself from the runner as well! I had something similar the day I picked my Cerb up - under acceleration, the throttle jammed wide open. Turns out that someone had run the washer hoses through the throttle linkages and when it reached a certain position, it caught and the springiness of the hose kept the throttle open.
Time to fix - 15 seconds and 2 cable ties

now mine is off, I'm going to close the gap in the runner so its a tight squeeze when the cables in there, I'm also going to look to wrap a cable tie around the throttle so the throttle cable cant jump out.
I really wouldn't do that! Smooth closing of the throttle relies on the cable feeding back into the slot at the bottom of the quadrant. You are likeley to cause the problem you are trying to solve by closing the gap.Brian March said:

Quick update - looks like the washer hose had also interfered (oh matron) with the throttle linkage on mine. Time to fix - 15 seconds and 2 cable ties
What's the best way to route the hose?
