Ive just got my 3r back into use for the first time since end of november and after the long time spent trying to jump start the thing (battery had run flat) i found it to be damp inside on the carpets and also a few spots of what looks like mould on the carpet and also on the passenger harness. (It had been sat in the garage all the time)
Anybody else experienced this?
Think im gonna get myself one of these battery chargers, any reccomendations?

Thanks
Paul

Yep, just going through the same myself, seems to be a noble thing. There seem to be various ways to deal with this, first thing to do it pull the carpets up and get rid of the horse hair on the back of a couple of sections of it, once that is wet it stinks.

There have been suggestion of getting the car on a ramp and taking the floor off by drilling all the rivets out, resealing it and then either putting it back on with oversize rivets or self tapping screws, also remembering to put something into the box sections so the old rivets dont rattle about.

I thought as a temp or maybe permenant measure I would rub the joints under the car with a wire brush and paint over with a sealer which is available at Halfords, its not underseal but they have it on the shelf next to underseal, its grey in colour and like a thick paint. I also put a sealer inside (after wire brushing the old carpet hairs away), I think you can get a very flexible sealer from a paint factors, put a bead along the join between the floor pan and the box section. I did it on one section with Fernox LSX (sticky as s**t) but it dont leak any more.

Then just clean the carpets with a carpet cleaner and job done

Mine got mould on the carpets once after it got very wet inside. After drying it out I poured salt on the mould; it takes up the moisture and kills the mould. It's an effort to hoover the salt out but it did the trick.

It was one of the reasons I parted with mine. My wife refused to go in it beacause it smelled so bad.

I have a custom breathable cover from Classic Additions - it's a very snug fit so doesn't flap about and rub the paint and keeps all but the very worst rain off. Even then what gets though is more of a damp on the outer shell as opposed to pouring water on it. The interior stays perfectly dry.

I've used them for years on the TVR's and can recommend them, very helpful bunch too, nice company to deal with.

The problem is water being picked up off the road rather than leaking in through windows etc

I bought a CTEK XS800 battery charger and adapter from www.theultimatefinish.co.uk - great service and the charger works a treat - plugs into the 12V socket on the dash and just leave it !!

If it's also on the passenger harness, maybe the problem is that your garage itself is damp, so all the air in it is holding more moisture than normal?

Perhaps you might want to consider getting a de-humidifier to help reduce the moisture in the air in the garage? I got one of these a couple of years ago to help keep things nice and dry - works well, although I tend to use it mainly when the weather is really damp/rainy outside, to help keep electricity costs down. Also fitted a length of pipe to it to drain outside so no need to worry about emptying the water tank on it.

Re. the battery charger most people go with Accumate or CTek. I got the Ctek xs3600 and cigarette lighter adapter after my Halfrauds charger fried the battery. Never had a problem since - just leave it connected to the cigarette lighter socket whenever I put the car in the garage. Highly recommended.
