Converting SEAC to PS
Discussion
Aside from this PS pump:

does anyone know where I can locate a suitable mounting bracket, pulley and PS rack?
Thanks.

That pump is for the serp. engine.
So the standard bracket would not fit.
you would be best to fit SD1 PAS pump and Bracket. unless you want to make a custom bracket and pulley.

Rover SD1 it is.. My Bracket has has new mounting holes drilled about 10mm to one side of the original ones to make sure the pulley doesn't foul the crossmember.

It's not just any old SD1 PAS rack BTW. There were about 6 different versions and it is the rarest one to get hold off.
It may be easier to find a Mk V Cortina PAS rack.
You will also need the intermediate shafts and UJ couplings as well as they are not the same as the manual. Finally the chassis has to have the modified strut brace that gives enough room for the rack to fit. Without it, the rack simply will not fit.

I started fitting PS to my 200 a couple of years back. Got 99% of the way there with Every thing sorted apart from a UJ to go on to the splined shaft of the PS rack. This is where it gets interesting as you won't find one that fit's the PS Cortina rack. In the end I had 3 made up.
I found it was possible to fit the rack without chopping any of the chassis, but manouvering it in place took some thought. Cheers Steve

Thanks for the tech info.
I seem to have a knack of searching out not so easy jobs.
My other car is with an engineer at present where he is fitting some new steering gear and he mentioned that he deals with a UJ supplier that's been around for many years (he's a hot rod builder by trade) and there no UJ that they cannot supply.
So, I imagine that's just a case of getting the spline size and shaft diameter's correct.
Still, I'm going to give this one some serious thought.
I suppose you'all going to tell me the retrofitting A/C in a wedge is also not to be taken lightly

There is another way ...
You can fit a power assistance to the existing set-up ..
TVRLeigh has done this to his race car and Racing Green currently are doing these conversions.

If you're serious about the AC. I've got the compressor, brackets and a few other bits and pieces. Yours for the a small fee.
Phil
Send me an email if you're intersted.

Yes the Electric option, is easier in some ways to fit, plus you don't need as many parts. cost of parts if you get a second had column is about £250-£300. unless you want speed controlled PAS, the £250-£300 price you would have a manual adjustment. (I only have mine turned on in the pits.)You can fit a power assistance to the existing set-up ..

Main problem is the mounting, you would have to fabricate and weld custom brackets. also may be difficult to make it look original, i.e. you may not be able to get the cowling to fit. all depends on how much time is spent on tinkering. as anything is possible. but would expect it to take 2-3 day for it to be perfect.
on the racer it did not have to look pretty. just work, but still took me and my bro 2 days to fit. lack of space and a fabrication workshop did not help.
but would expect to pay over 1k for a pro install.
If someone asked me to do theirs I would have to charge at least £900
My 390 has the Cortina PAS rack, powered by a Hobourn-Eaton pump (probably ex-SD1) mounted on the front of the left-hand cylinder head. The bracket for this is a heavy gauge monster of pigeon-s
t welding, elongated holes and wrong angles but it does the job (and no, I didn't make it
).
I have a spare pump from a Montego which is identical apart from having a shorter filler neck... I can't see why it wouldn't work.
The rack is the tricky bit... although perhaps the correct crank pulley would be trickier still!

Crank pulley's are not a problem.
I have details somewhere of someone that makes custom pulley's for drag racers, hot rodders etc, both polly vee and serpentine.
I have a beautful set of serpentines for my De Tomaso's new engine from:

Seriously nice.
