Hello all - I hope you can help me. I've had a Zenith El Primero for a while now (stainless with black face, moonphase etc) and am hankering for a change. Budget probably up to 5/6k plus trade in of the Zenith I guess - I'm not a collector just like a nice watch to wear every day.

I'd like something classic looking, not too bling, with a leather strap, simple numerals. Quite like the look of various IWC's (Portuguese) and also perhaps a Patek of some description though I see they can be incredibly expensive.

I wear a suit most days and jeans at the weekend so it would have to do duty in both environments.

Part of the reason I bought the Zenith was because it has a lovely movement, I like the idea of wearing a nice piece of engineering rather than something more mass produced if you see what I mean.

Anyway, any suggestions gratefully received!

Sounds like a job for Girard Perregaux? The Vintage 1945 collection maybe?

It ticks the box in terms of a fine piece of engineering on your wrist and isn't as mass produced as other brands.

Something from the Glashutte Original brochure perhaps.......Sir might like this?

Their own movement, history and build quality.....The Blancpain is lovely, but would cost nearly £10k.??

Thanks chaps. The Blancpain looks very nice. I wouldn't go for the JLC only because the shape doesn't do it for me

Any Tititanium Paneria would do me!

Love the shape of the case and the tidyness of the face!

Out of those listed, the Blancpain or Panerai would be my choice. Running a little low on alternative suggestions at the moment.

The Blancpain is lovely although it does "wear" pretty large.

I keep trying to persuade myself that I could get away with it but it might be just a little too big (for me).

You need something like the Flyback then smile Very delicate watch. Lovely to own/wear. Bracelet is the preference over a leather strap as it's so well made.

I already have a Breguet flyback which is pretty similar in looks to the Blancpain.

Next on the list is a Vacheron Constantin Overseas Dual Time which the OP might consider too?

Hi, I note what you say it's a coincidence as I also had an elprimero moonphase white dial as you say, very good movement in the watch but unfortunately Zenith seems to have gone all wierd with their design. I have also just sold my one, which had a stainless steel bracelet it would be interesting to know what you get for it. Zenith are very good watches but the problem is that it's the name that counts. What I could suggest to you a nice watch to buy is what I purchased 2 days ago, the IWC FJones Stainless Steel, they seem to be the 'in' watch at the moment and the FJones has a very good write up, let me know how you get on.

I'd say that the Breguet is easier to read, but has an inferior bracelet to the Blancpain. The Blancpain bracelet is very good indeed whereas the Breguet one is not only a bit uncomfortable, but difficult to adjust and also has no safety clasp. Only disappointment in a superb watch, IMO...

I've never had a problem with the bracelet although it's not as comfortable as the Glashutte Original I got a month or so back.

Fair enough, I just get the impression that the bracelet was the area where Breguet economised compared to the watch itself. Still love mine of course but in terms of bracelet fit, adjustability and comfort it's nowhere near Rolex's ubiquitous Oyster bracelet, let alone better designs. I'm sure the GO is fantastic, I'd love one, but proper-priced watches are out of the question for the cyberface 2009 budget at the moment... frown

Welcome to the club Andrew . . . I've got mine on a SS bracelet currently although sometimes swap back to the leather one for work.

Never leaves my wrist, morning, noon, night, work or weekend. Except working on the TVR which happens occasionally wink

See you in September hopefully, we're considering going to IWC at Schaffhausen when we're passing thru Switzerland.
