I have heard a 1990's Rolex GMT described as a "fat lady". ( It was in an article in the Hong Kong tabloids, however I can't read Chinese)

Can anyone shed any light on this ?

Sure, the watch you refer to is Rolex GMT-Master II model number 16760 introduced circa 1983 to replace the 16750. It featured a Sapphire crystal for the first time, the new case and bezel were slightly thicker/heavier. It's known as a 'fat lady' or very unfairly a 'Sophia Loren'.Rolex made it for around five years when it was replaced by the 16710.

Thanks.
Do you know if they used different mechanisms or all the same - only case / glass differences. Any bearing on 2nd hand values ?
