Anyone know what grade oil goes in the Diff?

Mine's leaking a bit and I want to renew.

And I'm assuming you fill/level it via the 1/2" square drive at the rear?

You know... points towards the back wink

Mine's got a 1/2 square drive nestling between the fins pointing to the back of the car almost obscured by the chassis rails banghead

Don't make me go crawling out there, I'm clean today!

There's what appears to be a protruding square drain plug underneath and that recessed plug directly to the rear.

Thank god for last years pics biggrin

Different diff to mine, mine is on the side nearer input. I use Silkolene ltd slip diff oil here. Your exhaust mounts are not the same either.

just to clarify as i looked for my fill plug last night and couldnt find one.

I drained the oil by un-doing the bottom bolt on the back of the diff. I can't seem to see the fill plug, will it be on the side? if so which side and roughly where?

The diff I have has the fins on the underneath and the car is a 97 4.2

Look above the exhausts in that pic. Roughly in the centre of the triangular chassis section is a square headed plug, that's where you fill it. You can't normally see it like that, my body is raised a few inches.

thats a different diff to mine. ive scanned the whole of the back of the diff and i havent anything that resembles a drain plug. only bolts around the circular back. The back of the diff is smooth and the underside facing the tarmac has fins. the car is on axle stands so I have been under there and had a quick scan of the back only.

could it be on the side of the diff? if so would it be drivers side same as the gear box?

I still haven't put the oil back in mine. laugh

On mine there appears to be a big (28mm) bolt on the drivers side that could be the fill hole. There's no fill on the rear of mine and there appears to be nothing on the passenger side first.

The drain plug is actually one of the bolts at the bottom of the circle...

Pretty sure mine's a Hydratrak and the large 28mm bolt with the LSD tag on it is the fill hole.
