just looking for any thoughts on this one really. I'm looking at A6 diesles at the moment, tending towards the S-line models, and I'm noticing a good few £k difference between similarly specced 2.7s and 3.0s (not counting the engine of course), are the 3.0s worth the extra ££?

Hi. I went for the 3.0TDI Le Mans Quattro, my decision was based on better performance wih no real penalty on fuel consumption. My car averages 34-35mpg and gets 42-45 mpg on a motorway run. I like the quattro particularly on wet motorways as its tracks straight and true through standing water. The handling is also better than its 2 wheel drive counterpart.

The 3.0 felt gutsier than the 2.7 when i test drove both and i am sure that it not only feels faster, but is faster, particularly on mid range acceleration, sy 40-70mph, the range you need when overtaking. On the autobahn cruising at 130mph there was still plenty of power to deal with overtaking, even though the car was fully laden.

I am going to sell my car.....to buy another one the same, just newer, mine is 2 years old and i love it, its the best everyday car I have had, as verified by Mrs T (who is very fussy) and kids, all of whom have sat in the car for long hours driving to and from Switzerland.

Plus the 3.0 can be chipped to be even faster and amazingly return better mpg. If I still have mine when the warranty is up, I will chip it. (remapping really)

Just out of curosity here - given your car is only 2 years old and your selling it to replace it with exactly the same car but newer model care to share why?? Thats one hell of a lot of depreciation to suffer just to have that new car smell and maybe some newer switches (the new A6 looks near on identical to the old one).

Imagine all that spare depn saved could go towards a nice sports car - or better still clearing debt/saving up for pension pot/Kids going to Uni etc.

I keep asking myself the same question, and i guess thats why I havent done much about it. I do like the peace of mind of a manufactuers warranty and yes I am sad enouigh to like the new car smell. It is also an opportunity for me to change the structure of my finance deal. Otherwise there is no logic at all. There are some good deals from Audi at the moment, but depreciation reflects that. Warranty runs out in 12 months so i figured it may be easier to sell whilst there is some warranty remaining.

I will probably end upo with my logical head on and keep the car, and get a newer car for my better half.
