Does anyone have an experience of the 575 Superamerica?

How does it compare to a F430 Spider?

What would you consider it's main rivals to be, bearing in mind it's driving charteristics, should it be pitched against a Muric Roadster (I imagine the Lambo is more hardcore/raw), or is it more similar to a Bentley GTC?

Is the F1 box any good? I've used one in an early 360, and that was shockingly bad, but I've heard good things about later versions.

Finally, residuals, any guesses on prices in a couple of years time? Will it hold up like the 550 Barchetta at around 100k? Or will it follow the normal Ferrari V12 path?

Thanks

ETA: Although I've just seen this http://www.pistonheads.com/sales/929889.htm so that blows that theory out the water.

Jimmy,

No experience other than seeing a few around and being bowled over when it was first shown at the Goodwood FoS but it's certainly a hell of a lot more special than a 430 spider - go for it!

wasnt the 575 a tube frame chassis underneath? so a fair bit less sophisticated than a 360 let alone a 430, still its going to be a lot more unique.

Hi mate,

I used to have a 550 Maranello which was a great car and I'm sure the 575 is the same, but I suspect even a superamerica has a fair way to fall yet. A guy who I know recently traded one on - a mint, one owner 2,500 mile one for a smidge over £63k and he was genuinely relieved to have found someone to off-load it onto. Most dealers wouldn't touch it other than on a sale or return basis, which is not exactly risk free. Shame because I would've bitten his hand off at £65k... but hey ho.

My 550 was 160k new and I sold it for 48k, so I guess you pays your money and makes your choice. Personally, I buy the car I like and if I lose money, as long as I have enjoyed it, it has been worth it. If you want it, go for it thumbup

I love the 575 Superamerica.

Surely it's a better bet than the 550 Barchetta for the European climate as the roof on the 550 Barchetta is canvas and fiddly...

Here's a zero-miles one for sale in Switzerland... Not sure they will get the near £260k asking price though...

Unfortunately it's not for me, but I will have access to it. I love them, just need to convince the buyer. I really think that it would suit him in every way, but obviously I have no experience to back it up with. Thanks for your insights, I'll pass them on in the best light I can.

I'll be back to let you know if I convinced him.

Unfortunately, the Rod Stewart one hasn't got the GTC pack on it - which was one of the problems with the one my mate disposed of. They are supposedly not very good without it - although, whether a 'normal' driver would notice the difference is questionable.

If he gets it, post some piccies up thumbup

I'd read about the HGTC pack, I don't think the buyer would miss it to be honest, the car won't be tracked, used more as a GT I imagine. Strange combo Rod's car has, sports seats, but no handling pack. Maybe they're needed to hold you in with all the body roll.

Ha, ha, I suspect Rod didn't have the (H)andling GTC pack fitted because he's more into cruising with his lady - probably chose the sports seats to help keep him in those tight jeans biggrin

It is an odd spec though. Perhaps it was a cancelled order sitting in a showroom and he just happened to spot it.

Either way if your mate gets it, I'm sure he'll be well chuffed.

Hi there,

There is a thread running in General Gassing from a guy who was at the auction tonight, apparently the Superamerica sold for a final sale price of around £85,000.

Sorry to disappoint, he didn't get it. Didn't feel he could spend that much on something he'd never driven. See, he left it all too late by only spotting the ad this week.

It's a big shame, I was looking forward to blasting across Europe in that. I'm sure the new owner will enjoy it.

Shame frown although £85k plus buyers premium, etc, is strong money for that. Must have been the Rod Stewart connection.....

If your mate is still after one tell him to keep looking because as I said earlier, they are definitely moving for less than what Rod's one went for.

The Rod Stewart Gallardo was a bit of a bargain though £69k plus buyers premium (£78k ish). Having said that, not exactly a popular colour....
