Does anyone know if a cooling chip for the Cerb was marketed by anyone other than Trackcar. I knew I should have bought one last year when I had the chance.

I've got a spare one still in its original packaging and with instructions. Sadly it is for a 4.5 though so I don't think it will work?

No the 4.5 chip won't work in a 4.2. The fuel and ignition maps will be completely wrong.

As far as I know I am the only one to have cracked the chip itself (unless julian64 has finished his disassembly) so Joo at TCS was the only one supplying the cooling chip.

Thanks for the info guys and for the offer. It looks like I will have to live with the high temps during traffic holdups etc.

I know that Jools has 'shut up shop' but if I were you I may be tempted to shoot him an email through his prifile, to see if he could make you one.

I do have a 'spare' cooling chip somewhere, I'm not sure if I want to sell it, but if you don't have any luck with Jools shoot me a mail and I'll have a think.

Austec have the capability to do you a chip, but don't sell them currently. Perhaps TVR Power can do this too?

Hi Mike wavey

The dissassembly stands at about 60-70%, and has done for at least the last nine months sitting in a cardboard box.

It finished with all the helpful pointers you gave me last time getting me to the point where I could map the fuel live, but didn't extend it to any of the other maps, although hopefully that wouldn't be too much of a stretch.

The dissasembly complied to an identical copy of the MBE chip, using phoenix.

I'd got the temp location but not got to the routine that did the high/low and switching on the fan because I hoped it would just naturally come out in time when all was debugged.

I finished on the timing for the engine with the routine for sensing the crank rotation sorted and then gave it a rest and haven't picked it up since.

Its something I keep meaning to go back to finish. Sometime smile

Brain fade coupled with typing between patients smile.

I suppose if I did get time I'd have done it all by now. MBE never did come out with the upgrade they promised for TVR's.

Spent last weekend on BMW DS2 communicating with my M5 with a terminal emulator and an Rs232 level converter.

One day I'm gonnna break something expensive smile

When I had my car remapped at austec they lowered the temp that the fans kicked in, it maybe more expensive than a stand-alone cooling chip but I guess it is an option.

Well it's taken longer than I expected for someone to post about Austec now that TCS has closed. smile

If you get no joy trying to contact Joo, PM me and I'll sort a chip out for you.

Problem solved.- Joo emailed me off line and offered to do a chip for me. So, am now very happy. Have also just fitted an Odyssey PC1230 Battery. (£176) mail order from Devon 4 X 4. It's just a bit smaller than the Halfords 072,and fits a piece of cake, it has also got a huge amount of grunt. 730 cold cranking amps for starters (no pun intended) and 1050 hot cranking amps. The Cerb has not been started for about 3 days, and can be a bit of a pig, I usually have to augment the halfords with a jumper pack adding another 40 amps, once she starts that's it for the rest of the day, no problems. But with the PC1230, I just pressed the start button and away she went, spinning over like a top. By the way these are dry cell batteries and the expected life span is 10-12 years, that is about 3 times the life of an ordinary battery (although that remains to be seen). The literature also claims that if the car is laid up and the battery is disconnected it will not need to be recharged for up to two years.

I would like to thank all those who made offers of help to acquire a chip, that's what this forum is all about. Many thanks lads I really do appreciate the offers made.

So Joo is doing some major lurking hehe

Nice to know you are still about joo. I had a feeling you were doing a reginald perrin. I had you pictured with your socks off on bridlington beach.

Nice to know even when you are taking a well earned break you still look at the forum for fun.

Only answering the question Tim, no bias intended. smile It's just that these two were the only two companies I know of that could defintely do what was asked. I don't know about Power, but they have a dyno and TVR engine knowledge hence I thought they might be able to help.

mikesr's your man, it'll only be a location in the eprom with a value corresponding to a temperature, or possibly two.

All you need then is an eprom programmer and a blank prom.(27C256) if I remember, few pence from any supplier

Just thought I would give an update. Joo's chip arrived this morning. I put it in and went for a spin. Temperature seems to fluctuate between 80 and 90 degrees. But will go up to 95 when stopped in traffic. It seems strange to see the temp going up and down between 80 and 90 when just poodling along at 50-60 mph. Nevertheless, it seems to be doing the job.
