How many miles do you get on an M5 (touring), full tank?

Hi fellas,

Am considering upgrading to an M5 touring and am wondering about the range?

How many miles do you get (roughly) from a full tank and how much does it cost to fill up?

I get 150 to 250
170 in the city (where i drive the most)
MPG wise so far i've seen 7.1 mpg to 13.2mpg.
Mine is a saloon. I don't imagine the estate would be any better.

If you can afford the fuel, it's totally worth it though. the car is out of this world!!!

I got my M5 saloon last week and only managed 160 miles on a tank! If you take it easy though you will get just under 20mpg on a run, but short journeys are a killer!

I have worked out it costs me about £4 just to pop to the shops! lol! Worth every penny though

I've got a touring. Gentle motorway run will give 20mpg and about 300 miles, local driving gives about 14mpg and 200 miles. I don't live in a city so don't get the single figure mpg problem....

I've got the saloon which does about 11mpg average on my commute in/out of London (mostly speeds up to 30 mph) but will do mid 20s or better when driving at higher speeds on country roads/cruising on the motorway. The tank is definitely too small for the car; it's a 70 litre tank and the fuel consumption is very, very conspicuous at all times on a tank this size (and, a very annoying fuel warning comes up on the display when the range is down to about 40 miles, just in case you weren't already aware how quickly you might run out of fuel on a hard drive). If frequent fuel stops annoy you (when doing mixed driving), I think that the car might seriously irritate.

However, the size of the fuel tank is the ONLY criticism that I have of the car, which is an absolutely awesome performer in every way and it doesn't actually bother me that much having to refuel frequently on the daily commute. In previous cars, I used to get annoyed at not being able to do a 300 mile motorway journey up north without having to refuel, but the M5 will do 300 miles without problem if driven with moderation.

..... therefore, apart from the tank size and the miles per gallon, the calculation of the range possible from a tank was spot on.

Ours has a 90 ltr tank ,says so on the fuel gauge & in hand book & I get 25mpg, ok the other half is a little heavier footed & she only gets 22.5 mpg.

No production E39 M5 tourings, only something like two specially made for BMW personnel.

Sorry, going mad, I mean E34... Not sure 90 litres or 25mpg is possible in a E61, I wish it was though!
