6 out of 10 didn't know what the Final Solution was.

I love history but my high school history lessons were utter ste. We didn't learn a thing about the most important events of the 20th century (world wars etc).

If this was a joke it really isn't funny. If you are serious you need to reconsider your viewpoint.

With that attitude I think you are the one that should be moving on TBH.

The survey in question was carried out by the Jewish Cultural Centre, so it's not unfair to suggest there might be an element of agenda in play.

A tttish thing to say, though.

To (try and) put a bit of perspective on this, kids don't learn 'stuff' about the Holocaust until Year 9 (13/14 years old)... so a large proportion of the 11-16 range questioned likely won't have ever heard of it. The fact that three quarters of those asked did know about it would suggest to me that most of those who could know about it, did know about it (see I can make up stats too!)

Dubit (the poll makers) don't actually detail what they asked, who they asked or breakdown the stats in any meaningful way.... so the poll's credibility is suspect to say the least.

But, you know.... shriek!!!

It's no joke at all, and the point is that it was a study commissioned by a Jewish organisation so they could no doubt use it as propaganda to pursue their own agendas. I have no problems with the actual holocaust, but I do have with the inflated presence it has in the media and the West.

Do schoolkids know about homosexuals and other minorities that were killed?
Do schoolkids know about Stalin and the millions he murdered? Or Mao Tse Tung, Idi Amin or Polpot? Or the Armenian genocide?

Probably not, and there won't be groups carrying out surveys, trying to add it to the education syllabus and continually remind us of the divisions in society.

I'm sure this thread will be full of 'faux' horror at my comments but I'm not sure that the Holocaust is that relevant or important to future generations. People say we will make the same mistakes but I disagree with that completely - they were different times and different value back then.

Can't say I'm really that surprised, and I doubt those figure will have changed much over the past 20 years.

11-16 year olds won't necessarily be au fait with WW2, bear in mind that PH isn't a representative cross-section of society (by any stretch of the imagination, for better or worse) and "we" take for granted on here about history is definitely not shared among many people of that age.

Afterall, why would we want to remember one of the biggest genocides in history from only 65 or so years ago?

Blimey, what an odd thing to say. I'm sure you didn't mean it how it came across, yes?

There's also a web forum with the rather sinister name "Gassing Station".

An astonishing and very worrying comment.

The subject of attempted genocide and the appalling crimes committed by the Nazi's should never ever be allowed to "drop".

We should all be reminded of it regularly until the end of time as a warning against what people can be capable of if they fall under the spell of an evil ideology.

By your reasoning we should be educating our children with an awful lot of information, history is full of atrocities and crimes.

Give me a genuine single reason why this event is more important than other atrocities in history. i.e Why are Jewish lives prized above all others?
