Right, sorry for the post as there have been many many Plasma TV questions posted on here, but I need a bit fo advise quickly.

When you turn on a plasma TV ( 50" Samsung for example ). should you hear a high pitched buzzing ? (not the sort of really high pitch that old CRT's used to make until they warmed up), but a constant electrical buzzing, that changes frequency when different inputs (DTV / Analogue / HDMI / PC etc ) are selected?

also frequency changes depending on the picture being displayed ( light / dark ).

I dont think this is usual, but can anyone please confirm im not loosing the plot here or about to embarris myself if I kick off with the shop it was bought at please.

Have you got something plugged into it that has been poorly earthed?

I assume this buzz is coming from the speakers?

No you shouldnt hear a buzzing but I've come across quite a few Samsungs that do it.

Its a power regulator/supply humming thats varying with the current drawn on it.

Could be physical movement of something on the power supply chain, a transformer perhaps. Usually a sign of a lack of glue, or incorrectly adjusted bolts.

Cheers Plotless. This is the second set since New Year that has the same issue. Its bloody anoying. Ive checked all the cables and the connections to the set, even put the set on a regulared and "clean" power supply. Have just contacted the point of sale and they are sending an engineer around on friday

No, NDA, noise isnt from the speakers, they are turned off as all audio goes through my DSP.

Sound appears to be comming from right side, (where the power supply goes in!) and generally from the rear of the set.

He'll be having to remove it from a painful place if he tries that one.
My mates 42" doesnt make the noise ( maybe because his is a Pioneer and he has more money than I do ! )

I've got both a woman and a car that make too much noise, neither are manufactured by Samsung.

Can you help?

Just a quick update.
TV engineers came today and have fixed the TV.

Turns out there are 6 ribbon connectors that connect to the screen on the sides. one or two fo these were touching the chassis and causing the interference. Interesting thing is when I took the TV off the wall last night, the noise stopped, so I guess these were loose.

To resolve the problem, the TV bods simply put some foam tape underneath the connectors so they couldnt touch the chassis.
( I dont think they liked my comment "Go on .. put some blue tac under it!" ) !!!

Cheers Plotloss for the diagnosis.. there was a secondary noise too that they rectified .. the one you mentioned
