Is it just me that finds this a little bit wrong?

I had basic sex ed at age 8. Never did me any harm. The class just giggled a bit but we knew alot more about it afterwards - so were less likely to become little Alfies.
Though five may be a little on the young side.

Now, are you absolutely sure you know how it works..?

Just a pity parents wouldn't do it instead

I have always answered any questions my six year old has asked, no matter how embarrassing (and they really are beginning to get that way hehe )

I've not got a problem with it. My littlun is 5 and already asking awkward questions.

Call me old-fashioned if you will, but I'm old-fashioned. It just doesn't seem right to have 5 year old's being taught (or even asking) about the birds and the bees.

Where did the innocence go?

dunno about that. Im 35 and recently found out from my mum that when i was at playschool (so pre 5) i used to carefully take the page 3 out of the Sun each day and keep them in a little wooden box.....and i have quite clear memories of trying to do some fairly wrong things with my neighbours daughter at not much older.....

It isn't just you. To be frank, I wonder if those who propose this sort of thing should have their computers checked......................

As Father Ted says "Down with this sort of thing"...

You can teach a child the basics of nature and let the innocence remain intact, no one is suggesting that we show 5 year olds XXX rated movies and go into depth

Considering the teen pregnancy rate in the UK, I think its about time the old fashioned British moved aside and lets try educating our children instead of wrapping them up in cotton wool and pretending sex doesn't exist. Education can be the silver bullet, lets not have the prude and old fashioned get in the way.

IIRC the only sex education you get at 5 is with regards to paedophilia & strangers...its not like they are giving five year olds condoms...

I think you might be missing the point slightly chaps & chapesses. The OH works as a Youth Worker and therefore works closely with the education system, these lessons are based around relationships, interactivity with others, awareness of others (paedo's etc..) and how to be civil to all. There's no actual penis/vagina talks etc....

To answer the OP no its not just you. They've got this one WRONG. Big time. A typical knee jerk reaction to a recent widely publicised story.........'We must interfere/ban it/make it law/change it, whatever - but we must be seen to be doing something FFS as we're such a bunch of fkups who can't get it right in the first place...
Reading that article the word 'Compulsory' leapt from the page.....
Compulsory ? fk off ! School is not compulsory .....

If it's in Catholic boys schools it's probably needed at that age.

Can't we just let kids be kids longer and tell them babies come from storks?

That justifies your generalisation of a religion ?

Say the same about muslims. Go on. Start a topic about child abuse in mosques. Or honour killings. Nah, the Catholics are an easy target. Coward.
