yep - 41mm. Most motor factors seems to stock a socket in that size.

Search ebay for 41mm hub nut

I just looked and there were half a dozen on there - note most are 3/4" drive due to the amount of torque required.

Thanks, looks like only need one size then, just checked out Ebay, cheaper than I thought they'd be. My big bar is 3/4 but torque wrench is only 1/2 surprisingly (got an adaptor)

I've got a massive 3/4" drive mother of a torque wrench if you need to borrow it, you're not a million miles away.

If you regularly check ebay you can get some real 3/4" drive bargains as not many people are after them. I got a brand new full socket set for under £40 and the qualifty is good too I've seen the same set in Machine Mart for over £150.

Haven't used it yet though laugh

Ironically enough I have unbolted both rear hubs today. I borrowed a 3/4" ratchet and 41mm socket from the guy that looks after my and the wifes daily drivers. I told him the torque setting for the nuts and he put a 6 foot lenght of scaffold pole in my boot as well.

Offside nut came udone with just the ratchet, no way was the torque setting correct, near side needed the scaffolding pole and the wheel wedged so it wouldnt turn and with all my weight (which is far more than it should be) the nu eventually gave way.

Its a worry at the difference in tightness of the nuts and all the other suspension bolts on both front and rear suspension were no more than just pinched up a bit more than fingre tight.

Now this wasnt on Gerald but the fire damaged S I'm breaking but its stil a concern.

and as TVRGIT advised in last months Sprint's Trailing arm "How To..." - fit the spare wheel and lower the car on to it before trying to apply all of the torque required to shift the nut...

K wink

Yep but it only works with the body on!
With the body off the bloody wheel spins, especially when you have all the brakes disconnected!

Just has a quick look on fleabay loads 'a 41mm sockets mostly 3/4" but some impact sockets with 1/2" drive. Made me stop and think whats the difference between impact and non impact sockets? I know you arnt to use ordinary sockets with an impact wrench as they might shatter but is there any thing wrong the other way around?

No they are just tougher Norman and usually more expensive, that impact hub nut looked a good buy on ebay.
They have quite a thick sidewall so may not fit in tight locations (I can't see it being a problem with the hubs).

I bought an impact 16mm socket to undo my V8 cylinder head bolts, I broke 3 sockets of dubious quality before I bought the impact one. It still took a hell of a lot of effort to undo them with a 1 metre breaker bar!

Dont I know it - managed to rig a puller for rear brakes but couldnt lock them up finished wedging a piece of wood between space saver spokes and the ground. What a faf.

You have got a big one !
Appreciate the offer but hopefully the one I can borrow from work will do the job, max setting is 250lb/ft so "click" and a little bit more plus a dollop of Loctite should do I reckon
