I'm currently having a mare of a time with battery life on my 1d mk1. So was looking for any info on whether it's improved on the Mk2. I guess it uses the same batteries, but is it any better on life?

I'm currently getting anywhere between 50 and 200 shots per battery, and they suffer really badly from low temperatures. Refresh button on charger makes no odds, and it's the same for genuine and non-genuiine batteries.

Any views appreciated.

Well I didn't have a MK1, but the battery life on my MK2 is truly amazing. I'd guess as a minimum I'd get 2000 shots from a charge. Now, this is at normal 20decC type temperatures so maybe very cold conditions would kill it.

I do know that for a weekend away taking lots of shots I tend to think twice about taking the charger with me....

Battery life was one of the big jumps forward going to a Mk2, along with reduced noise on higher ISO's. Later bodies go one step better....
I get around 1000 shots including glass with IS, and the larger prime lenses.

How old are your batteries on the MK1?? Are they genuine canon or replacement type??

I've been using a MK1 for years now and have still to upgrade to a MKII but may do so in the near future.(though just bought a 20D as a backup!)

The genuine Canon batteries when new last for ages in the MK1 but will deteriorate very quickly when coming to end of their life (about 500 charges I believe but may be wrong). Replacement type batteries will only last for about a day of shooting where I found that genuine batteries would last for a weekends shooting at an airshow for example.
