Pulled over by Police
Discussion
Driving in a built up area on Friday at 30mph (honest guv!). I stopped to let a woman cross the road. I then noticed two Police motorcycles behind me. Started off again, slowly, into second and then stopped as the traffic lights were red. Must have travelled 100 yards.
One bike pulled next to me at the lights and then pushed it way in front. Once in front, on came the blue lights and he notioned me to pull over. I should add that its a Swiss car.
"License" he insists. He then proceeds to ask how long I'll be in the country. After giving me back my Swiss license he says, "was it really necessary to stop and then accelerate like that ?".
I point out that I stopped for the lady to cross. "But why stop again ?"
"Because the lights were red !!"
"You sped away from us," they claim, in a rather patronising manner, "and the noise you were making!!"
"I wouldn't call 30 speeding. In fact, it's not. The noise is what the car does, I can take you round the block to show you but it's hard to stop it making that noise."
"We're not saying you're speeding. Don't get me wrong, I'm not jealous that you drive a Ferrari and I only have a Renault. I just want to point out that if you continue to drive like that then you'll go through brake pads very often !!"
I really feel they wanted to abuse what they thought was a foreign driver. No wonder that foreigners hate the English so much.

I understand what you are saying. The last time I was in france with my Diablo, I was driving quite
normally and was stopped by an irate motorbike gendarme for nothing. No fines but just some pompous
pratt in a uniform rabbiting away to me. No wonder the French piss me off. Mate the traffic police are the same all over the world.

Funky has a good story after she was pulled over last weekend.
Cop decided to pull her over on a busy enough road and while everyone was too busy looking at the orange Diablo being pulled in, they forgot to look ahead of them and there was a 4 car pile up!

I have got a contrasting story to that. I got stopped on my way to Top Gear on the M40 last year in a Superleggera by an unmarked. I was speeding (wont go into detail but it was enough!) Cop put the fear of God into me about losing my license, then gave me the license back, told me to calm down and let me go without any ticket. Said that he is not there to ruin someones life. Didnt half slow me down. Felt like I had used one of my 9 lives!!
I do appreciate that the English Police, unlike French or Swiss, do use their discretion at times. However, I hate the way they sometimes try to get me to beg them to use this discretion. Maybe cutting my nose but I really felt like arguing back in this incident. Perhaps I would have been a bit more understanding if I'd have broken a law.
