Looking for some opinions.

I've been thinking about getting a four post lift for some time and now that I'm ready to take the plunge I've started leaning towards a two post.

Two reasons, takes up less room in the garage and better access under the car. I don't think I can get enough height in the garage for 2nd car storage under it anyway so the convenience of drive on ramps is not a big plus in my mind.

Anybody have any experience with the 2 post?

Thanks in advance,
Jim

Hi, I've been toy-ing around with the idea also. Seems to me the two post is better because the four posts pick the car up by the tires/ramps. If you want to work on the wheel bearings for example what are you going to do? You would have to lower the car on jack stands anyway. So what would be the point. You can do that now with a regular floor jack. I like the two post as long as they will fit under the car at the jacking points. Make sure you know the clearances before you buy!
Good luck!

Actually the 4 post lifts I have used has an additional lift device on a sliding rack on rails that allows one to lift the front or rear up to drop the wheels off. No experience on 2 post lifts. Jim, email Dave Cammack he is on the club directory.

Hi Jim,

If working on the car rather than storage is your goal, I would not even consider a four-post. I just had a two-post installed in my new garage, and can't wait to put it to use. Be aware that you may need a lot more room than you think, however, both in width and height. A four-post can fit in a single garage stall. A two-post is going to be around 11 feet wide at a minimum.

Cheers,
Sanj
