Thompsons makes roof biggar ??
Discussion
Drivers seat belt and behind seat wet so went out today and bought Sikaflex, silicone black & clear and Thompsons Water Seal (If i dont make this car waterproof it will have to go). 4 coats of Thompsons on the roof with the roof panel out but when I put the panel back in it appears to of grown !!! Both doors now close on the seals instead of under them ?? At the rear of the roof seal appears what looks like plastic poking through which was not there before. I have pulled this off to tidy it up and looks a lot better and have also been able to pricise the door shut with some care not to crease the seals but can anyone tell me if they have had similar issues when using Thompsons ?
Also as it was the wet seat belt that alerted me to the wet carpet (until now had been dry car) does anyone know if it is likely to be the roof or is it one of the other usual suspects ?
Finally, Sikaflex - do I need to warm it up for best results and are there any other handy tips I may need to know ? I am going to start with the windcreen seal next and then work my way around the liley culprits. Thanks.

Can't be the Thompsons that made the roof bigger!
Make sure you get a good soaking of the fabric lip around the botton of the rear screen where the stitching is. Also check the seal around the door frame - at the bottom it should be pinched to prevent water running down the seal and flooding inside. The pinch diverts it to the outside.
If you park on a slope with the front of the car uphill, the water in the rear behind the seat may have come from the front. Check if the front carpet is wet. If so the most likely culprit is the seal around the brake master cylinder or the cover over the clutch cylinder.
Another possibility is the base of the windscreen or where the windscreen wiper spindles emerge through the bulkhead.
This is not a terminal problem it can be sorted - don't get despondent.

Urg! Tricky. Can't see how Thompson's can make the roof bigger as it's GRP underneath. Sometimes I can get problems with the rubber lip going behind the door glass on one side if I don't get the roof panel exactly centered, but it can't happen on both sides at once!
Could the problem (wet seat belts) have been caused by inadvertently getting the rubber lip over the glass on one side? The best way to fix this is just to lower and raise the window so the rubber flips to the top edge.
Sorry, can't be of more help without seeing the car.

I guess if you doused the leading edge of the roof panel (the bit that fits into the top of the windscreen) or the leading edge of the rear hooped section with something it may 'puff' up a little making the initial 'slotting in' of the roof tighter. I can't see how it would affect the rest of the roof.
Well it has definatly affected mine. Drivers side now getting better. Only 1 in 3 does the seal go behind. Passenger no better. Lets see what the next 48 hours brings it may be a drying out thing ?. I have also used Zymol rubber protectant this afternoon to try and see if by chance the seals had some Thompsons left on them making them sticky and causing the problem. This improved the drivers side. Lets see what they are like tomorrow.
