My S Type R went in for service today and we got a call saying that one of the front tyres had inside edge damage, probably from a pothole. Standard fitting is Continental ContiSports. Could we get one? No, no local suppliers, even Micheldever group hadn't got any.
This isn't the first time - I don't usually run tyres down to the wear indicators but I had to with the rears when I tried to get new ones in July and they weren't available for months.

I've now had to replace both front tyres with Pirellis which aren't the correct fitment as a means of keeping a three year old car on the road and it simply isn't good enough

So (end of rant) if you have an S type R with Continental Tyres I'd suggest you buy a couple of spares, when Continental get round to making a few more, and keep them in your garage...

Meantime I've emailed Continental and Jaguar and await their feedback with considerable interest - I'll maintain updates here

JG,

I knew there was a reason for me getting a regular S-Type 4.2 V8 SE: no replacement tyre problems! However, although the normally aspirated 4.2 is a great car (I love it), it is probably not as great as yours!

Had a call at 10.00 Am this morning from a bloke in Advertising at Continental - responding to my "I'm less than happy" mail left on their site last night
He promised me someone in operations or technical would call me and as I sit here at 16.55 I'm still waiting

Spoke to Jaguar customer service just to put them in the picture and they were brilliant ( they usually are) I'm apparently not the only customer in this situation and I got the impression that in moaning about Continental I was pushing on an open door. The fact that there might be some tyres in the UK in the next two weeks is - as they readily acknowledged - no use at all.

So Jaguar are on side and Continental are keeping quiet
