Looks like a HIF 44 SU of some sort except the body is different.

Jap rip off of the HIF? As said, looks like an SU HIF but I've never seen one with either an electrical connector on it, or a O ring.

Has it any details on it? A metal tag, or number. It could be a late SU or one of the Hitachi jap copies, the pic isn't the best either.

Pretty sure it is a Jap copy (license built?) of SU HIF 44 (ball race for piston) with automatic enrichment and probably anti-run-on solenoid. I think they were used on Datsun 240 / 260 engines.

Hitachi made the SU clones used in the Z cars, but IIRC they were very similar to the standard HS style carbs rather than HIF.

There was an HIF44E carb used on some cars (Maestro & Montego spring to mind) shortly before fuel injection made them obsolete. As well as a fuel shut of valve they also had a rather large stepper motor assembly on one side of the carb, and had the standard HIF44 flange, so I don't think the OP has one of these. Never seen an SU with the o-ring sealed "spout" that the OP's has.

The solonoid is likely an antidieselling valve (anti run-on valve) .. the rubber rings and extra brass pipe unions on the side suggest it might be a pressure-sealed version for a turbo application maybe? ie metro, maestro, montego turbo?

Thanks for all the suggestions folks. There are a couple of numbers on it. GK36 down near the bottom, and 1151 on the inlet containing the butterfly value, and 22 5 on the butterfly itself.

I will try and post up a few better pics later on.

I wondered about that, but it doesn't have the clamping arrangement on the top of the dashpot to prevent the damper unscrewing.

According to the SU web site it is a KIF 44, (hif variant, fitted to the wedge shape rover 214)
