eBay 0p listings

Seems if you list something "Auction Style" with a start price of sub-99p, then it's free to list with 1 free photo.
Anyone would think business was starting to dwindle....
Ah but that's the cleverness of the offer. The cost of the listing is only peanuts compared to the final value percentage which you pay once the auction has finished. Anyone would think business was starting to dwindle....
I just try and get some of the charge in with the postage, not huge amounts but at leasst enough to make a dent in it. After all your costs are upfront anyway, unlike ebays which are dependant on final value. I am going to put a load of computer stuff on sale this coming week and as a seller I am expecting no end of hassle. Ebay is great for buying stuff but a nightmare to sell anything.
Their latest con, the "Thou shalt accept Paypal" policy, p*sses me off immensely.
Recently listed an old lawnmower which I'm not going to be posting for the obvious reasons of size and weight, yet Fleabay still insist that I accept the hassle of Paypal as well as the sensible option of cash on collection.
What are people's experiences with eBid? Might start selling stuff there rather than on Fleabay...

I really don't know what all the tears about being forced to accept Paypal are for.
You are not being forced into anything.
You are agreeing to accept ebay's terms and conditions by your use of the site.
One of those conditions is that you accept Paypal. Simple.
You don't have to sell on ebay but you choose to becasue you know it will fetch the best results.
If you don't want to accept paypal, sell your item elsewhere and quit the f
king bleating.
Otherwise why not just out in the text:
"This item is strictly cash on collection"
Coupled with a message to the highest bidder at the close of auction:
"Could you let me know when you wish to collect the item and please remember that I require full payment in cash upon collection".
Not really rocket science is it. But I guess it's easier to f
king whinge like girls and do f
k all about it.

No, but the phrases 'restrictive practice', 'monopoly' and 'over a barrel' come to mind. It may be legal, but is it decent? You are not being forced into anything.
I had the O% listing fees e-mail too, but luckily I know they'll take 15% later so ignored it

Except that your proposed course of action contravenes fleabay's new "policy" and will likely result in the deletion of your listing. Not exactly rocket science, indeed. Then again, I guess it's easier to swear a lot and act like the "big hard man" than to make an intelligent, well-thought out or useful contribution to a discussion.

I am stopping selling stuff even tho I have plenty to put on, thankfully I don't need to sell any of it. It's mostly Hi-Fi stuff that I can sell for nowt on a well known HI-Fi site where the buyer pays cash to my bank and I post the stuff out. Sell an amp for £500 and between Ebay + payscam they they would take £67 in fees....£67 fucckin pounds or a Hi-Fi forum...free....no brainer

If you didn't think someone elses business terms and conditions were "decent" you simply wouldn;t conduct business with them, would you?So why is ebay any different.

Do what the banks do. Accept Paypal but insist on photographic proof of identity plus copies of two current utility bills if the item is paid for using Paypal and collected personally; otherwise cash on collection. Any legit buyer will opt for COC as it's less hassle(for items that have to be collected of course!)Recently listed an old lawnmower which I'm not going to be posting for the obvious reasons of size and weight, yet Fleabay still insist that I accept the hassle of Paypal as well as the sensible option of cash on collection.

This doesn't avoid the Paypal charges but

I know plenty of people who have sold and still do on those terms and they haven't had listing removed for breaches.
If you search ebay now I gaurantee there will be hundred of such listings.
The swearing is because everywhere you read these days people are moaning about ebay/Paypal yet continue to use it. It's very tiresome and I've had a hard day.
I felt like swearing.
Anyway I'm off to my big hard man now.
