I'm Derby and I took mine down to Topgear in Wolverhampton, its a bit of a trek but not too bad, and they lent me their astra for a couple of days while they did my c-service. All seemed to go to plan and no nasty surprises so I'll prob be taking mune back.

Also a bit of a trek but for me I would use Paul Matty Sports cars, Bromsgrove. Proper garage with proper mechanics.

Good luck finding someone in Nottingham.

I have been looking for a year and posted on MLOC etc.

West Midlands is OK but East Midlands seems to be a bit of black hole as far as Lotus is concerned - for something like this have you thought of using someone like Nationwide Autocentres?

interesting responses, thanks all smile

re: nationwide autocentres, I thought they were tyre/exhaust places, kwik-fitesque in their services provided... would they be able to look at the fuel pump on a K series Elise, locate the leak and sort it proficiently..?

I'd go for Paul Matty Sportscars, they are genuine Lotus enthusiasts. I took my S1 111S there for a service and one of the old boys gave me a lift to the train station in a lovely old Elan in stunning condition. I asked if it was for sale and he just laughed and said "no, this one's mine... it's got over 130k on the clock!"

... as for being too expensive, they are half the price of Lotus dealers!

Rubbish. They are well priced for the service they offer and the experience they have.

If that's what you want to think then it's your loss.

I always use Top Gear because they've always done a good job. PTP are based in Hinckley and offer all kinds of upgrades for K-series, never used them myself mind.

Might be worthwhile giving Paul at Prestige Performance Cars in Melton Mowbray a call - they specialise in doing Tivvers but i think he also does a range of other peformance motors.

Hi everyone,

I've recently got a s2 elise and hark from Nottinghamshire so I'd be interested to see about this one. My service isn't due for a while but I'll have to decide who will be my favoured garage at some point.

Just recently for some spare parts and advice on sorting my alarm out when it went on the blink I rang up Peter Smith sports cars in Derby - they were pretty helpful but can't really vuch for thme at this stage as I haven't used them for anything else. I was interested to see no-one had mentioned them yet.

Does anyone here have any experience of using Peter Smith? Either good or bad?

Cheers

tom.

I can't comment on quality of service but whenever I've had a quote off peter smith it's always been top (or over the top depending on how you look at it) dollar, and have gone elsewhere where I can find prices that I think are justifiable. They may well be good.

Smiths are ££££ but are a Lotus dealer, so if your car is still in warranty I'd advise to go there.

If not, I still say TGA.

I'd recommend PTP in Hinckley every time and only 40 mins from Nottingham.

Have a long history of working on Elises and have developed a number of performance kits for them. If you plan ahead, they can loan you a car if yours needs to stay with them for more than a day (they're part of a large group and always have courtesy cars or even vehicles from the 2nd hand sales fleet to loan you). Much as I rate Guglielmi for performance tweaking, for rudimentary stuff you're as well going to PTP. Ask for Nick Mackley, the Workshop Manager if there's anything technical to describe - don't expect the droids on the reception desk to understand!

Thanks for the replies guys.

It seems as though no-one uses Peter Smiths because they are so expensive then.

Mine's no longer in Warranty so will probably go to PTP as they are alot closer than the rest, although I may try the others to see if any of them is a particularly nice drive to get to. PTP will be 45 mins on the M1 so not the best, but certainly the easiest.

Cheers for the comments.

I'm sure it's been said before but aren't forums absolutely brilliant!! I've got so much information from them over the last few months.

I've used PTP with no problems. In fact, mine's going there for a C service next week.

They're probably not the cheapest independent but it's relatively easy & cheap to get to Hinckley by train from Nottingham which makes up for it...
