Rory Gallagher - underrated or what?

Have always been aware of RG, but never got into his music. However, thanks to Spotify, I'm soakin' it all up.

Just how good was he?

Look up "underrated" in the OED, and it says, "see Rory Gallagher".

Underrated for sure. Saw him in Top Rank Cardiff in 1980. Always loved his stuff. Even been in his drinking haunts in Cork, where believe me, he isn't underrated. They have regular Rory tribute events.

Saw him at Rock City, Nottingham, years back. IMHO he played a bit too much acoustic stuff, but the night was most enjoyable, nonetheless.

Saw the great man a number of times. You cant put into words what a magnificent and energetic performer he was, with Wilgar Campbell and Gerry McAvoy, it was like an unstopable express train.

Whenever I get the blues, thats what I listen to.

I don't think he's underrated, just not well known. In guitar circles, of those in the know, Rory G is a legend. It's just unfortunate that he didn't hit that big in the 70's and he was also AWOL during the blues revival in the 80's. He also died way, way to young.

Always liked him, even since his Taste days.

Saw him at Glasgow Apollo twice ca 1972-74. Absolutely brilliant.

Good book out at the mo' by Gerry McAvoy (Rory's bassman) about life with the man.

Fantastic down to earth exponent of the great instrument.

Absolute legend in my house.
