So, news this morning tells us that 1780 fire crews a year are called upon each year to lift fatties from one place to another.

They are getting special training (I understand this to be a grossly stuffed Guy Fawkes on a pallet, which is then moved by a forklift).

Is this an acceptable use of our Fire and Rescue services?

It's a tricky one. Personally, I am inclined to think that once you have exceeded 20stone it's your problem if you cannot walk around/get somewhere. I mean, when the scales hit 19stone and those tent sized clothes stopped fitting, you couldn't walk up the stairs without stopping for a rest, then at what point didn't you look in the mirror and think "diet time"?

They are after all an Emergency Service - so how many people could be saved from burning buildings whilst they are carrying a tub of lard around?

How on earth can they be expected to save someones life if they are totally bed-bound due to their own fattness?

Best bit is when the fatties get all upset that the fire services are creating a scene. Usually because they have to remove their front bay window and lift them out on an industrial hoist in front of the whole street.
Seriously, they should be billed for the service, or even put down. Anyone who gets themselves that fat that they can't move themselves is of no use to society.
And they always have an excuse too. And it is never the reality that they have spent most of their life grossly overeating junk food...
Yet another pointless waste of already stretched resources...

Surely, rather than break down half the house to get them out, the answer is to just brick up the bedroom door leaving a 1 foot gap. Throw in a few lettuces every now and then, and wait until they can get out by themselves.

Sensible policies for a happier Britain.

They should manipluate the statistics a bit. When a fatty calls for help somone sets fire to the opposite side of the house to the front door. Then one of two things happens... the fatty decides they can find the motivation to move or they lie there and the fire service get back to their core business of putting out fires and saving lives.

The only poor outcome is if the fire was too hard to put out and the fatty got roasted. After that much BBQ food the firemen would be at risk of obesity. No plans perfect eh? wink

They should charge them for a non-emergency call out - £250 a go.

Mainly called in by other services, and generally for at home emergencies. If its termed a life risk, eg they have breathing difficulties, suppose its the fastest way to get manpower/resources on scene. If it was a pre-planned move (eg hospital bed) some Fire Services would charge.
