Recommend a UK coastal holiday cottage for April...

Want to take OH and 2 kids somewhere coastal that's not outrageously expensive for a weekend - Friday & Saturday overnight.

Live in Yorkshire - so Welsh coast is easier to access than, say Cornwall.

Any recommendations?

Looking at a map, is ferry to Isle of Man or Ireland from Birkenhead worth doing?

Was initially thinking Brighton or somewhere along there - but its a bloody long drive and I expect a shoebox near Brighton will cost a bomb.
