Hi we put new plugs in the car over three weeks ago and took the car to the Lotus garage to get some work done on it afterwards. I started it up at the garage and one of the cylinders was not firing properly. We pulled the plugs and they had quite a lot of carbon build-up on them. We cleaned them up and its good now. When starting the car up everytime can I just let it run to operating temp and switch off again if I am not using it, or do I need to take it for a good long run to burn off any carbon build-up?.

Edited to add its got carbs not fuel injection

Hi Kylie, as with any car it is better to drive it than letting it sit and run. This way all fluids have a chance to circulate, Engine, transmission and wheel bearings stay lubricated. It does not have to be a long run. I have 5 cars and in the winter here I alternate using them every few days.

Thanks Larry, gosh five cars is a bit of a juggle. So if I just wanted to back the car out of the garage to get do something in and put it back in there, I can't just turn it off straight away after starting?. The car gets a good blow-out on the moterway once a week, other times its just going round the block or a trip to work.
Well as it happens am off for a drive now anyway.
