I'm in the market for a new diving watch. I am looking for a solid high quality watch that I can use as a backup for my dive computer. I would appreciate opinions on a durable dive watch that's not too expensive. Price range of Seiko Monster or the 500 meter auto diver from Werner's is the price range I'm looking for. Are these the two best? What else are people using?

Thanks!

As a proper working non saturation dive watch you really can't beat the Citizen range.

The Orsa Monstrum or Orsa Sea Angler are also well regarded. I had a Montrum a while back - huge bloody thing it was but as a tool watch it was great.

You can get either used for a chunk less than 200 of your finest pounds

Citizen cheaper than Seiko but still good quality watch, what about http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/CITIZEN-AUTOMATIC-SUBMARINE-... for £70

I picked up a titanium auto Citizen Promaster for just under £100 from an ebay seller in the far east. Very happy with it.

ebay, but do be careful. My criteria was UK sellers, with good feed back only

Well, I'm in the US, but when you say be careful, what are you referring to? Fakes, or empty/brick box shipped? something else?

Thanks,

I don't dive, but do have one of these and it is much better in the flesh than it looks in the photo.

A very well made substantial piece of kit!

Not so much fakes - these are inexpensive watches, but there is a lot of badly repaired / poorly modified rubbish around and as always with ebay, the risk of not actually getting the photographed item.

When you say poorly modified, would you advise against modified divers' watches if I want to swim with it?

If it hasn't been pressure-tested, I'd be inclined to assume that it's not water-resistant.

Thanks all for the help. I decided on a Seiko black Monster. It arrives on Monday (hopefully)!
